But considering some of the endings of the DA:O it would make carrying a character across a bit difficult, don't you agree? I would also like to point out my past topic, which hints at an expansion of some form : http://social.biowar.../9/index/381027 - nothing but a title yet though.

I can neither agree or disagree since I haven't finished the game.  Though as a storyteller myself (Pencil and Paper RPG's) I can tell you that regardless of the circumstances of the story (even if the character was dead) there is always a way to rejuvinate the story and bring a character back in a fantasy world.  So I wouldnt worry about the circumstances of the story as a road block to a sequal.  Most story elements in a fantasy world can be fixed with time elapsing and magic.

Lol, very true - can certainly think of a couple of ways that it could happen and make it seem right.

lol at the title of this thread

of course DA2 is in the works... its not exactly a secret. DA was advertised as a series early in its unveiling, just like Mass Effect.

So the correct title would be "Title released as a series shockingly has a sequel in development!"

Nooooo waaaaaaay.

Booo! I certainly hope not. While multiplayer elements may be a good addition, Dragon Age is a single player RPG. About the only multiplay I would want is being able to use friends as companions.

It's not an MMO, but it might have a Multiplayer mode.

That'd be something not decided upon yet. And we knew from last year that David Gaider had begun writing on it again.

Also, Adam; The story of the entire game means EVERY PIECE OF DIALOG. Could you really write that? It rivals Baldur's Gate 2 in scope, which is one of the longest literally pieces written digitally.

You talk as if you're involved in the process and would know? How do you know this stuff?

I Just hope they take the time to properly work on it and hammer out some of the bugs in their game engine and possibly throw us some new classes/origins that were perhaps born out of the blight we handled..where our DA:O saved games have an impact on the story depending on our endings in the upbringing of the new origins [perhaps meeting some chars from the first game giving it full continuity..think a certain redcliffe child growing up and taking over daddies domains]

Although I hope the process behind the sequel is not quite as severe as blizzard's handling on Diablo III but not the "IMO" quick'n'dirty shag that was L4D2...i.e just simply buffing up the graphics slightly (unsightly wood textures anyone?) and Re-texturing the darkspawn / NPCs to reflect the era/area of the game..

oo and they should definitely give our PCs voices like mass effect..that would truly make it more immersive for me..

So, let's do some math here...

This game took 5 years to make. Now, some of that is work they don't have to do again:

- Engine construction(But I'm sure there'll be some changes)

- Tool creation

- Many models(Which could mean more variety)

- Lore creation.

So, if we assume everything goes well, I think we can take a couple years off of that. So, the sequel would take upwards of 2-3 years to develop. Shockingly, the DLC plan looks to be laid out to bridge that gap.

And why does NOBODY consider the idea that expansion-level content might just be part of that plan?

Good. We won't have to wait another 5-6 years for more awesomeness.

I only got one question, are they going to make the game more pretty this time or just use the same engine and technically be granting us an expansion instead of a completely new game?!?

99% of all video game sequels use the same engine as their predecessor.  You understand the time it takes to make a new one is generally measured in years, right?

Why does the engine have to be completely brand new in order for it to be considered a new game?

Because graphic ****s make up the majority of the game buying demographic.

Well, them and the FPS fans.

It doesn't rival BG2 in scope.  There's far, far, far more writing in DA:O than there is in BG2.  It's not even close.

EDIT:  And the game engine is just fine.  All they really need to do is increase the resolution of the textures, make a few tweaks here and there (more lighting would be nice), and add weapon animations so we can have our damn bow strings!  I mean, come on!  WoW has weapon animations and bow strings!  That games runs on practically any hardware and has an engine that's been in use for about 5-6 years now!  Bah!

ive said this exact same thing in like 6 or 7 posts, lol. heck i even said close to it in this post XD
i also love how people make assumptions about the dlc, based on release date content, and the first post release content, that isnt even out yet. lol. everyone take a deep breathe, kill some digitally animated monsters, and let bioware do what bioware does best. all of our appetites for more will be sated in time.
you might want to get involved in another game that takes up alot of your time, to keep you distracted from this one once your "done" with it, that way you dont sit idley and make crazy forum posts, and start making random theories because you sat and thought about it too long. lol:D:wizard:

And, what, they're terribly deluded about how often a new engine is made/used?

Usually yes, though there are exceptions.

most of the time they're far too busy teabaging someone in MW2 or complaining, to look up what new engines may be coming out.

I wonder if any of them realise how long, say, the Source enigine's been around.
