I noticed somewhere that there's a want to make the DA combat more strategic. As a console gamer, I both wholly support this and fear for what will come from the console version of the next Dragon Age. For that reason, I have spent some time thinking about how I'd like to see the UI change and thought I'd post my ideas here.

Note: I will be bringing up Final Fantasy 12 frequently as it provides the best examples of how to get my ideal interface for a more tactical Dragon Age.

Okay, so my main issue with the UI in the console versions is that I cannot be as tactical as I would like. Watching footage for the PC versions of Origins and 2, there is so much more room for that tactical combat style. My proposed solution to this is that the UI moves away from the Radial Menu. In the long run I have nothing against the radial menu (as it works amazingly in Mass Effect), however in Dragon Age, I've found that it does nothing, but provide me with a hassle while in the middle of combat.

To cut back on Radial Menu usage, I suggest taking a look at how Final Fantasy 12 played. Many (or at least Game Informer) compared numerous of Dragon Age's concepts to things used in FF12 and that gave me a lot of hope for playing on the console. What needs to be taken from this game is the concept of being able to pause (which can work on the console like it would on the PC) and select characters to go after certain targets instead of having to take direct control (moving them into range, with the rest of the party trailing behind them) to get them to attack a certain enemy. Letting the player set up the same amount of commands and actions as can be done on the PC is not just possible, but completely viable. All it takes is using what Dragon Age already has, rethinking what the UI should work like and how to implement that into the game.

Now, this is just my suggestion and one I thought I might share. To all readers of this post, what do you think?

Note: This is only for the console version. I do not want much it anything changed for tactical PC gamers who have it great in the first place.

P.S. Before anyone attacks me for this and goes on about how I should've gotten it for the PC. I've never had a gaming PC before and I wanted it to run as smoothly as possible. For that reason, I got the 360 version.
