Misogyny is the hatred of women or girls. That's just a general definition.

I see people throw this around a lot when people talk about Diana Allers and Jessica Chobot. She's a terrible voice actor, her behavior isn't exactly modest, and she's not a super nice person either. She called us all whiners.

No way she should have been in the game. There are many talented voice actors out there, why not give them a nice break?

Does this mean that I hate myself, as well?

Was I the only one who thought he voice acting wasn't that bad? Most people use her sexualized image to insult her, and they say she only got her job for her looks so I can see where she and her supporters are coming from.

All I get is, don't post any of the pictures from IGN which show her acting in a less than virtuous manner. She is a clean and wholesome woman who has many good qualities.

You might be.  I didn't have anything against her and in fact was looking forward to having an Emily Wong or a Khalisah on the Normandy.

But her voice acting was horrendous.

Mostly because it's amusing. But her voice acting was just plain bad, listening to her made me feel embarrassed.

I don't see how she got the spot based on her acting experience. I think that is why most assume she got it for other reasons.

Should the mods call it Chobotgyny instead?

I don't think she got the job for her looks, I think she got the job because she's supposed to be a geek magnet. I also think that's what lots of other people are thinking. It's stunt casting. As for the level of her acting, some parts of it actually were more or less alright, but you only get one chance to make first impression. I still remember "and this war (extra long pause) needs to be won!"

Maybe because I watch a lot of Eniglish dubs of anime I can let less than steller voice acting slide. It can be said that reporters are actors, they create a persona of themselves to make people interested in what they're talking about.

Yeah, there's that too.

That's what I actually pose as my main reason in threads about Chobot.

She's that perfect "gamer girl" that guys like. Anime, manga, video games in underwear and provocative positions. What guy wouldn't like her?

They did a bad job on her character model, though. Melty face.

Fan service.

I feel the character of Diana Allers isn't all the bad but I see her as a useless character! I mean she doesn't really provide anything to the story of Mass Effect 3. She is just there like a poster on a wall.

It is funny though many of U who would of had the opportunity to star in a video game would just be happy they even got the chance. Yet their character would still be the poster in the Normandy!

I was okay with her acting, but then I'm used to the wooden acting of Harry Kim on Voyager.

Misogyny is people saying she ****ed execs at Bioware to get the gig.

It's the worrying trend she represents that's the main issue, coupled with the pointlessness of her character, the bad voice acting (not her fault, she's no actor), Emily Wong's Twitter death, and the misspent resources.

I think she's alright. I don't really care at all, you didn't even have to have her in the game.

That's being sexist, which goes for both genders.

But, it can also be a reasonable assumption based on character.

This is on aspect to the game that had to be a 'good idea' by some marketing. (Probably silverman). The idea of a war reporter to get assets = okay. Using her was a bad idea. Wong or Bint Salani would have been a better fit.

The idea behind the character was interesting.

A reporter playing a reporter in game? That's kinda neat, but I feel that they could have gotten someone much better for the part.

See, this, is all fine. I totally agree with everything you've said here. Perfectly valid criticism.

It's when people start ****-shaming Jessica Chobot, and saying that she must have slept with someone at BioWare to get the job, that it crosses over into a personal, and a sexist, attack. (Link leads to a feminism 101 explanation of ****-shaming and why it's misogynistic.)

I'm not going to join in any discussion of this, btw. You'll either educate yourself, or not. I'll just keep reporting personal attacks and sexism when I see it.

I was really creeped-out when Allers hit on my Shepard but I'm also really creeped-out by all the sexualised violence directed towards the character on the boards.

I have nothing against the woman, but I do think that there were better options for a reporter on Normandy, Wong or Khalisah would have fitted into the story better. I also didn't like that they killed off Wong on Twitter.

I also don't like the connections to IGN but certainly the sexists comments are out of line.

I only really had a few of problems with the character and that was the character model looked very disproportional and the face was.. well it didn't do her justice to put it bluntly.

My second problem was the "ease" of the interviews, and the lack of them. I wanted more interviews, I wanted more reporting, and all I got was a small wheel where I pressed a button twice, and apparently finished a 2 hour exposé.

I actually wanted more xD
