Was I the only one who thought he voice acting wasn't that bad? Most people use her sexualized image to insult her, and they say she only got her job for her looks so I can see where she and her supporters are coming from.

I am with you there, I don't think she is as bad as people say she is. Her role is so minor that it wont make me rage all over just because her acting isn't as good as people like Seth Green and Mark Meer.

The same here. I didn't find her perfomance bad, I didn't find it great either. I just found it OK.

Now if you want to hear some REALLY awful voice acting I suggest looking up on youtube clips from the God awful Omni/Star TV English dubs of Transformers: Headmasters, Transformers: Masterforce, and Transformers: Victory, (they are so bad that Hasbro won't let Shout Factory release them on DVD even as a bouns feature) if you can survive that you can damn near survive anything.

IMO, criticizing her as "fanservice" is pointless, because EVERY character in ME3 is "fanservice" in some way. All of the LIs are fanservice to their respective fans, the returning ME1 characters are fanservice to the veteran ME1 gamers, Cortez is fanservice to the gay and yaoi fangirl gamers, Vega is fanservice to newcomers, etc.

That being said, I too disliked Allers, but mainly for three reasons: She can't voice act at all, her character is relatively shallow, and her presence in the game creates a conflict of interest for IGN. I also found her character model creepy, but I generally find all of them creepy because Bioware is stuck in the Uncanny Valley. That's a big part of why I vastly prefer the alien characters over human/asari characters.

So any character that doesn't directly provide something to the story is pointless?

Are we really talking this much **** about the girl?

Ridiculous. Utterly off the charts bonkers.

Obviously not, but her role was far too limited to have any real impact. At least that's my opinion.

So?

I found a space hamster in the engineering room. I bought fish I had to feed for a while before I bought a VI.

None of that's really important. It's just there.

Hell, you can say "no, I don't want you on my ship" like I did the first time.

Problem = solved

I think you forgot your link proving her sexual promiscuity. Or you don't know what it means.

Why would I need to prove anything?  From the link:

"If all negative connotations are removed from the word, a “****” is simply a person, most often a woman, who has had sex with multiple partners."

But go ahead.  Enlighten me.  We're bound to get off-topic eventually and if you want to take it in this direction I'm interested in what you have to say.

Because you said she based her career on ****tiness, and leapt to a conclusion about her promiscuity. Being portrayed sexually in a crappy ign article does not equal sleeping around.

Bioware said he was brought in for newer players.

Basically as a "dumb" character to get new players adjusted and feel comfortable. Plus, he's an actual actor and he's voice acting is pretty good.

I missed that too.  Did Vega do anything that would help new players get adjusted and feel comfortable?

I would just like to point out one thing: there are quite a few posters in here who seem to find the word s*ut incredibly insulting, like a horrific swear word, yet are calling people misogynists left, right and centre like throwing around a frisbee. IMO that is a far worse thing to call someone. Calling anyone who goes off on one about Allers/Chobot a misogynist is way, way too strong and makes me think some people have forgotten the meaning of the word or have a campaign of their own:

Misogyny (play /mɪˈsɒdʒɪni/) is the hatred of women or girls.

Hatred, guys. Not even dislike or taking issue with but outright hatred. And on a generalist scale too (all women). Whether or not you take issue with people getting pissed off at her, to go as far as calling it misogyny is ridiculous and tantamount to calling a comedian a **** (sigh...well, it's what Hitler was), and personally I find that far more disgusting than people using the word s*ut.

Here is the problem with the whole issue.

Chobot works for IGN. IGN reviewed ME3 at a 9.5 out of 10.

Conflict of interest. Also, by putting her in the game, they wasted a HUGE amount of money from time modelling her into the game, paying for her voice acting, and shoe horning her into the story and as a LI.

Imagine where that money could have gone if someone expressed the level of stupid it would be to add her in. A face for Tali, a better ending.. who knows.

All I know is that the acting was awful, the reasoning was awful, and no self respecting Shepard would allow her on the ship.

Misogyny is the hatred of women or girls. That's just a general definition.

I see people throw this around a lot when people talk about Diana Allers and Jessica Chobot. She's a terrible voice actor, her behavior isn't exactly modest, and she's not a super nice person either. She called us all whiners.

No way she should have been in the game. There are many talented voice actors out there, why not give them a nice break?

Does this mean that I hate myself, as well?

I didn't know who she was before me3 so I didn't have an opinion about her. I thought her voice acting seem little out of place in the ME series but I simply brushed if off and ignored it threw rest of the game. I only began to have dislike for her when she began insulting the fans for criticizing. I understand people can be cruel but when you put your name in such a popular game as this you should be aware there might be some consequences . I just felt she handled it in a childish and immature manor.

For the impact she has in the game i think she would be better off as a cameo. If you can kick her out of the Normandy at anytime i dont see a reason to not just make a cameo.

Okay, just to play devil's advocate here...what do you think of Freddy Prinze Jr. getting a voice acting job in Mass Effect? Though it's been awhile the dude was once considered a sex symbol in his hay day. Was he brought in for the female audience? Also, his Spanish accent was non existent, which was stupid because they just HAD to throw in Spanish words.

When I talk in english and throw in a word in spanish it sounds like the way it did in the game so I don't see why people think it is unatural, that is simply what it sounds like when you learned both languages at the same time, you have no accent with either.

I think the issue is if Jessica was a guy in the exact same position, promiscuity would not have even made it into the argument. I mean honestly, how many would have said, "I bet HE slept HIS way into the job"...

Right, but somehow I also doubt that EA would view a male version of Diana Allers as something that would really appeal to their target demographic (a sexualized, poorly acted, reporter character). And by the way, the fact that Diana Allers was put into the game is in that regard sort of insulting to the target demographic.

Sure, different sexist/misogynist/misandrist stereotypes are tied to both genders, the negative, damaging stereotypes about females are not the same as the negative, damaging stereotypes about men; so a guy would most likely not get accused of sleeping himself to the job. And no, I do not approve of these sterotypes on either side, I just wanted to explain why you wouldn't hear that about a male Diana Allers/Chobot.

To summarize, so that no one gets me wrong, I disliked Allers as a character, I disliked Chobot's acting, I do not think she sleept herself to the job, I do not think jokes about her sleeping herself to the job are funny, and I do not hate either gender. I do, however, dislike certain people of either gender, which does not make me a misnogynist, nor does it make me a misandrist. I dislike some human beings, but that does not necessarily make me a misanthrope. And so on.

The experiment should be a little more flexible. For instance, change the demographic to accommodate the necessary conditions for EA to do so. I believe the same point would be made.

Hmm.  I assumed that as a correct premise in response to a post about ****-shaming her.  Can't ****-shame her if she isn't a ****, yes?

As far as her being "****ty", that seems to be the image she's trying to cultivate.  In the over-sexualized, objective definition of the term.

That said, I'll retract that statement and amend it to say "whether or not she's actually a **** is really neither here nor there".

I guess I'm the only person [well if you don't count conflict of interest] doesn't mind that Chobot / Allers is in the game. Now I do think that we should be able to choose Allers, Wong, or Al-Jilani as our embedded reporter though. This I feel quite strongly about.

Note: Killing Wong via Twitter just to add Chobot / Allers really works against the whole "artistic vision" arguements.

Yeah.  The real problem isn't shaming women for their sexuality, no.  The real, REAL problem is calling someone a misogynist when they do that.  Because it's so hard to be called out on your crap.

If you took the brainpower you used to come up with this backward theory and used it to understand this argument, you would come to understand that hatred is not always this obvious thing that anyone can see.  More often than not, it's insidious.
