Anyone else has the opinion that instantkills(Phantom,Brutes,Banshee) are stupid?

Krogans would be OP if they were immune to insta-kills and this fact also adds more tension and drama to the gameplay.  I do agree that because Krogans have more shields and health, they are supposed to be stronger then most races and as I like to call them an 'immovable force,' but not at the expense of the drama or heat of CQC.  Where does it say in the lore that Krogans are the masters of CQC?

I think it's good that a Phantom can ruin a Krogans ****.  A Krogan has just as high a chance of doing it to the Phantom though.  So the argument is moot.



I don't think it is specifically stated anywhere in "lore" that Krogan are "the masters of CQC".  However, no one else is stated as being said masters either.
I will refer to one loading screen tip from ME2 though, "If enemy Krogan get close to you, they'll charge.  You don't want that." 

Left with no explicit declaration of mastery in lore, we must interpret available evidence and come to a conclusion.


I have interpreted Krogan physical strength (the highest of any sapient race apart from the Yahg), redundant organ systems and dermal toughness, the inherited Bloodrage possessed by all Krogan, better peripheral vision than most species and the tendency for most Krogan seen in the games to prefer shotguns to mean that they as a race are better suited to close quarters than most, if not all other species.

Certainly better suited than a human, with some nice tech and an overly long razor blade.


You seem to have interpreted otherwise, and the multiplayer would seem to back you up for gameplay balance reasons only.
I do handwave and suspend my disbelief a bit more on the rare occasions that I lose a fist fight with a Phantom, but it still irks me.

Phantoms isn't a boss? Tis' the only enemy that makes Cerberus challenging, I think that makes it one.

I don't find insta-kills ridiculous. What I think is stupid is Banshees/Phantoms dragging you to their position from ten feet away... That's lag-related though, so it can't be helped.

i dont think the dragging is lag related. i dont rlly lag and ive been pulled a quarter distance of a map before.

No,she isnt. Look how many "health" (barrier+healthbar) they have. Its nowthere near to be a boss like an atlas,a banshee, or a brute. Somehow funny that only the geth prime didnt have an instantkill.


Boss =/= Tank

Atlas comes out before Phantoms do in waves.

And as for "instakills are stupid", I think people who don't know how to manage instakill enemies might be the stupid ones. Those enemies are a clear priority target, that are only dangerous in close. Seriously, what's the issue?


The issue is when you get revived and instantly get stabbed by a Phantom or Banshee because you can't move or anything for several seconds. Nothing like a Phantom shooting you to death with their supremely powerful hand-pistol-thing and getting downed and then being revived onto the Phantom's sword.

... and without the option to revive. That's the biggest BS about insta-kills imo. Random unavoidable deaths is one thing, but to be out of business for the entire wave is ridiculous :(

Anything that stops a Vanguard from charging head-first into a banshee on Gold is a plus in my opinion.

It's kinda wonky that a Banshee can pickup a couple-ton weighing Krogan, but hey - whatcha' gonna do?

Honestly, the Phantoms palm sniper cannon is worse. I seriously don't understand why Cerberus bothers making snipers who use highly noticable lasers and don't have a melee attack when they could just make ones who don't need no pansy laser and carry a katana.

Only thing I hate is when they do it as soon as they are in melee range and you have not taken any form of damage... Full health/sheilds oh look I'm dead.

I'm fine with it. These enemies make you adopt different tactics. If they didn't have enemies that posed extra additional threats, then the game would be incredibly easy.

Since each class is different, I think it's more than fair to make them better against some opponents than others. Which just means classes like Vanguards aren't as good vs. the big dudes since their survivability goes into the pooper because of the chance of instagibs, but can tear apart mooks in a second. Quite fair to me.

Instakill adds a lot of difficulty and depth to the game play.

Without it, banshees would not be as scary as their sound and apperence make them out to be...

Take away their grabs and they become even more of a joke. If you let them get that close to you then you deserve to be killed.

Yes I love being revived into an isntant kill or a banshee teleporting through a wall at me and instant killing me or a banshee useing the force to pull me 20m away to her and instant killing me ..... Such a great feature ....

I really really hate it when i get insta-killed by the melee if they sit on top of my when im downed.
Other than that i'm fine with it.

by some of the perks of that particular kit (especially as you can one hit kill Phantoms with the right build (silver/bronze)) .

I haven't played around too much with the Krogan Battlemaster, but I just unlocked it last night... looking forward to playing around with it. I can't really comment too much on how safe it is to go charge happy with him just yet - but from what I've seen it seems more like his charge tends to be slower anyways, so the playstyle will probably have to be different. :happy:


Dude... you gotta try Geth Infiltrator spec'd towards melee damage!

It makes Gold seem like some sort of pre-bronze.....

Cloak.
Run into group of enemies.
Hold B.
2-4 seconds later you have like a zillion kills.
Profit.
Repeat.

The only 2 things that bother me extremely about the instakills is

a) if you are down and get revived by an infiltrator or use medigel you can get instakilled without even having a chance to move first. so basically player skill (like doing an evasion move in the right direction and escape the danger) doesn't matter at all because sometime you just can't do anything. there should be a small invincibilty time after getting up - at least from instakills.

B) phantoms and banshees seem to have an additional skill: a powerful vacuum cleaner. because sometimes you can stand even a few meters away or run past them and suddenly they suck you in and instakill you. It's a stupid mechanic. If you are not close enough, they should not be able to kill you. You can see how you just get sucked in and glide over the floor. Looks really stupid too that animation.

Fixed, not removed - I'm just sick of being picked up by Banshees at the top of a stairway when I'm at the complete bottom.

I dont mind there being insta kill, just feels messed up when you got four phantoms that spawned around you and two of them kill you with their hand cannon at range the moment you pop out of cover to fire off an ability. It doesnt always happen though it sure sucks when it does. The only nerf I would like to see is to the phantoms hand cannon in ether accuracy or just for popping shields.

At the very least you should be rezzable after an insta kill.

Not exactly sure what the difference is between being impaled by a banshee/phantom and taking an atlas missile to the face. You would think the missile would leave less to work with as far as med packs are concerned...

So how'd a phantom instakill me through my Blade Armour if she staggered instantly after meleeing me? :(
