Could the "Specialist" (ME 2 Infiltrator) build work here for ME 3?

There was a neat thread on the ME 2 forums about an Infiltrator build called the "Specialist" that emphasized using Cloak as a positioning device so as to unleash Soldier-like damage on enemies.  Could this still work with an Infiltrator in ME 3?

*Edit: the Specialist also emphasized using AP ammo to "bolster a weapons' strengths" (in ME 2), but it might not be the best fit in ME 3, since Disruptor Ammo now does health/barrier damage, and Cryo weakens armor.  It could still be useful because it removes the need to have a Penetration mod for any of their weapons.

AI Hacking wasn't an option in the ME 2 build, since the way protections worked made it very situational; Sabotage is now a viable skill to have.

As a CQC infiltrator? Yes. Equip a claymore or other high damage shotgun and you will be a beast, even more so with the 3 second cloak cooldown.

Well, that's the way infiltrators were originally, a hybrid class...tech/soldier. Now they are just primarily snipers in ME3 which is why I don't play them anymore. I would go with an smg or heavy pistol and a sniper rifle as support...if I were to play the class as it was originally.

Shotguns just don't feel infiltrator to me so i've never done that.

OP: Yes. It can and it does. In fact it works extremely well.

I encourage you to give shotguns a chance on the Infiltrator.  With weapon restrictions lessened in ME3, what have you got to lose?

Well, a pure sniper is the 'traditional' way to play an infiltrator, but that is by no means the only way.  With the changes to Tac Cloak (cooldown proportional to time active) and the power cooldown system, Cloak pretty much lets you do whatever the hell you want, whether that be pure sniping, cqc, or some hybrid of the two.

also, it works well with assault weapons as well because the cloak bonus isn't just from firing in cloak, it's a couple seconds coming out of cloak as well.

Its why something like the valiant and black window work really well coming out of cloak.

but in mp, my mantis + avenger combo does really well. coming out of cloak with an avenger can do alot of shield damage
