There was this really cool turian I saw that worked pretty well.
Primary:White
Highlight: Yellow
Secondary: White
Pattern: 2
Pattern Colour: Dark red
Lights: Orange
Skin Tone: Who can tell?
Primary:White

My favourite combo that works on nearly all characters:
Primary: Black
Highlight: Blue
Secondary: Teal
Pattern: not camo
Lights: Green
Skin Tone: depends which character.. Usually the most bright looking one

I'm more of an earthly color guy, so on most characters I have some variantion of grey on the metal bits, and brown on the cloth bits. Vorcha for example, the primary is brown to give it a leathery kind of look, then grey or black on the metal secondary bits to show armor/reinforced/non-organic type material. I'm quite partial to yellow lights.
