I am curious, hopeful and optimistic. Is there a chance they will dissapoint or make a bad situation worse? Yes. But the chance that they will turn the ending from, "Oh god," to something that is at least marginally good is much higher.
What are your thoughts on the Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut?

*Chuckle* Curious? Dude, if you want to avoid spoilers you probably have to run past their department with your fingers lodged firmly in your ears EVERY DAY
That is actually pretty much what I do... LOL. I find screaming "LALALALALALA" helps a lot too.
But yeah, I went into ME3 with no idea what to expect aside from the first 30 or so minutes which I was asked to do one day to give a "fresh eyes" perspective on a prerelease build.

Is it weird that I'm imagining a guy with a dragon head with 'QA' on his shirt running around the office screaming "LALALALA"?

I'm curious, excited, anxious and am already finding it impossible to wait for the Extended Cut.
To me, it's Indoctrination Theory or bust. Tthere are too many design decisions throughout the game and the end that don't make sense unless it's Indoctrination, and under IT then those decisions and the writing and even Ghostboy (and his curious variations) are very clever clues intended to unsettle us (or throw us into fits of rage).
In the past week since I finished the game, I've been conflicted in my feelings towards the DLC. I'm very convinced of IT, and so believe the DLC will be great, however they decide to conclude things. Then I fall into pits of despair where I run worst case scenarios in my head that they just flesh out the Literal Ending. Then I remind myself of the some of the biggest, strongest clues for IT (not proof, just powerful indications), and I'm reassured again.
It's such an emotional roller coaster!

I imagine it will be like the end of Dragon Age: Origins, only if the end was a hefty mix of personalized cinematics rather than slides. I can't f'ing wait.

I won't get too excited until I actually see it, I don't want to be let down again.
This.
Could go either way. Pretty indifferent until I actually see it.

I too am intrigued, but not overly optimistic. Unless a significant amount of content is edited, I doubt it will be as successful as Bioware hopes it will be.
To be more specific, here are several segments that I think need an overhaul if the endings are not rewritten OR if the indoctrination theory is not expanded upon -
To be more specific, here are several segments that I think need an overhaul if the endings are not rewritten OR if the indoctrination theory is not expanded upon -
- If Shepard is alive in the destroy ending, how did he/she survive reentry?
- How does synthesis work?
- How can Shepard control the reapers?
- Unless Shepard is being indoctrinated, how does the catalyst know to take the form of the child who dies back on Earth? More importantly, why does it have to be a human child?
- Why is Joker even running away?
- Why can't Shepard refute the star child's logic?
- How did Anderson reach the beam unscathed and manage to beat Shepard to the Citadel's console? The hallway leading to the console is clearly a straight path, but Anderson somehow beats Shepard to the end of it.
- Are the relays permanetly destroyed or simply disabled? If disabled, how soon can they be rebuilt?
- If the catalyst is part of the reapers why does it even assist Shepard in the first place?
- What happens to our crew? The Citadel races? How did our actions effect the galaxy?

I'm pretty much over the whole thing. I doubt that I'll ever play the series over again solely based on the ending. Since BioWare have decided to keep their non-sensical ending and further explain it with cutscenes, I just can't imagine how it will be any good; you can't make an omelette with an rotten egg.

So very roughly speaking, most people seem either cautiously optimistic or are waiting to see if it's worth it, with a smaller but still notable chunk very pessimistic or even outright hostile.
Also striking just how often two words come up - "hope" and "caution".
One bitten twice shy and all that. But there is still trust in Bioware here. Best wishes with the work, eh?

To bad they didnt ask you or someone else do that for the last 10-15 minutes of the game.

It really depends on the events that take place within it. They say they're going to offer a degree of personalisation. Hopefully they will go completely nuts with this and make the majority of your war assets mean something in some way individually.
I keep hearing rumours that you can be ruinited with your LI and squad. I seriously hope this is true, not just because it means that Tali and Garrus won't die but also because it adds some positivety to the ending.
I also hear that the relays can be reactivated/ rebuilt in a reasonable lengh of time. This is another key thing I hope they show as otherwise the whole Mass Effect universe is gone.
I hope also that they DON'T fix the plot-hole where EDI survives the destroy ending. It would be great to know that I am only killing the Reapers with destroy due to the Crucible being well calibrated and defended thanks to my war assets.

I think that the very premise of the ending is faulty, and all the clarifications I've heard offhandedly mentioned so far don't sound like they'd fix any of the fundamental things about the premise that make it feel nihilistic and unsatisfying to me.
I also feel like not having any of your squad with you in the ending weakens it immeasurably, because while there may be closure for Shepard and closure for the squad, all the other games have seamlessly woven those two things together. The ending rips those plot threads apart, which removes the series's greatest strength from Shepard's final moments.
Right now, the ending is basically everything I didn't like about Arrival, amplified and distilled into a rich syrup of pure disappointment. Unless they've been prevaricating about exactly what this extended cut will contain, I have little reason to be optimistic.

They've got their work cut out the current endings reek of pretention and a strong desire to force emotion from the player rather than guenuinly cause it. I hope they can make it better but without removing starchild I can't be hopeful.

Link in my sig describes how I felt.
I was...surprised, and confused. Okay, they're fixing the ending...by changing nothing about the ending except adding clarity and closure....
Ok...this isn't going to appease many of the upset fans.

Oh, I'm totally excited. If they want to keep the current ending, with Shepard sacrificing him/herself, the relays exploding, and starchild, that's their right. It's their IP, and they can end it how they want to. That being said, the ending was sloppy and filled with plot holes, and when I pay 80$ for a quality video-game, it's my right to get a quality video-game. If they just flesh out the plot-holes, I'll be fine with the ending as is.

To early to tell. Personally though I can't see anything that includes the Starchild in it. It was a cookie cutter ending to begin with that is not supported by the previous continuity and lore of the rest of the series. Many of us wanted to see Harbinger as the main boss and villain since that is what the previous build up led you to believe was going to happen.
We will see though, at this point I just don't have much hope for it, and most likely by the time it comes out I will have already moved on to other games. Although I may forget about replaying ME3. I will however not forget the bad taste Bioware has left in my mouth over this and DA2, so there will be no more Bioware game purchases fore me.
