Anyone else considering picking this one up? I think it looks interesting, but I'm waiting to see if there will be a Steam demo.

New combat video released today

I played Risen last year and thought it was a lot of fun. I'll wait for this one to hit 5 bucks though before I buy it (my policy for any game tied to a client).

There's a little game called The Witcher 2...

*Removes pretentious Buddy holly glasses*

Perhaps you've heard of it.

Risen? People actually liked that? With it's static faces, senseless plot and weed smoking monks? I suppose there was the combat system... it wasn't very good but it was there.

This one is all pirates and swashbuckling. So I've already preordered it on Steam.

You took the words right out of my mouth. That game failed more than Two Worlds.

All I know is that there's pirates.

So I'm definitely in.

I haven't played it, but I can't imagine Risen's faces, plot and combat system was any worse than Oblivions was.  And alot of ppl seemed to like that turd.

If you played games like Skyrim for story that's dumb. Same thing for Risen.

I rather liked Risen; I also liked Two Worlds and Oblivion, for the record. Which I'm certain doesn't do much for my hipster credentials, but y'know.

A classic Piranha Bytes game. I did not like Risen as much as Gothic 1 or 2, but it was still very enjoyable experience. I am buying this for sure.

I preordered the game but i am not sure if it will be as good as the first Risen game, it looks like a completely different game.

So are there going to be any complaints about the day 1 dlc? Or the fact that it looks like the publisher is planning quite a lot of dlc?

If there's day one DLC, I'd imagine that there will be complaints, yes.

There is a "Treasure Isle" DLC that will be available at launch I believe.

Well that's lowered my opinion of them.  Sad.  :(  I find it hard to respect any publisher that pulls that stunt.

Its completely free with the normal edition you pre-order from Steam.

I was looking at the art book bundle because I'm digging the different setting for an RPG, but they only have it for consoles on Amazon.

Why make it a DLC, then?  Unless it's a Steam-only thing, but I prefer not to order games through Steam etc.

Well Risen 2 is a steamworks title so well you kind of have to use Steam. No idea about the DLC maybe they're hurting for cash but I hate day one dlc. If it's ready by day 1 it should be free or they could just give it free to new copies I can deal with that. I can't deal with buying day 1 dlc.

A pirate RPG is a really good idea. However, I am really skeptic about the Risen franchise...

Same reason as always. Its an incentive to get you to pre-order the game. This is nothing at all new to the industry.

True, it's been around a few years now, but I don't like it any more than when I first encountered it; same with schemes that typically require online reauthorisation every time you want to play.  It'd be nice if games publishers would just, well, be nice.
