Each character is about 75 so you should at least promote at least 2 characters to make it safe.
That being said, you still have to be bothered enough to drag three characters up to lv20.

Did you ever consider the possibility that the fact that you can't get the easter egg except via a combination of SP and MP might be intentional?

You missed the part where Bioware said 4k EMS is possible for SP, or even 5k.

I thought "saving" Anderson (P/R) gave you a bonus 1000 EMS? Was that ever proven? I know it's been talked about a fair bit over the last month, but I never saw any direct confirmation if this was true or not.
No proof yet

So they are intentionally punishing players who have bought and played three games from them because they can't access the MP part? And are rewarding players who may well have only bought one game and then played MP...
Well that would be nice of them - what a great way to keep your SP only players loyal - exclude them from the ending that a lot of them would love to have (especially after 100+ hours of gameplay).

Yes I think this could be intentional (Which is why I think we are getting the silent treatment)to get people like myself who don't like multi player to have a go. I really hate multi player, so no I won't be having a go.
I peronally don't see this as an Easter egg.
There are apparently 16
Bioware said you would be able to get optimal endings playing single player only. Well you can't!
And no, before anyone asks, I don't have an iphone or ipad, and I shouldn't need one because.........................BIOWARE SAID............................. It's like bashing your head against a brick wall isn't it?

There are apparently 16different endings, and two of them are where you see Shep, Fem & Male at the end if you get the miraculous 4000EMS.

This is why you won't get Bioware admitting this is a mistake. It isn't a mistake this has been done intentionally to force you to play multiplayer whether you want too or not. They want you playing multiplayer and they want you buying the crappy spectre packs (or whatever the microtransaction crap is). So I wouldn't expect to see them change this any time soon and you can expect the next Bioware game to be even worse with regards to this.

Yup, me too.
Hey, maybe if I hit it that brick wall often enough I'll forget I even have ME!
Yup, 16 endings available according to the guide book - but mutually exclusive, depending on your level of EMS - 8 endings for keeping the Collector base intact in ME2, and 8 for destroying it.
Probably more accurate to say that in a given play-though, there are 8 levels of ending available depending on your EMS (+ a specific action at 4,000).

Personally I wonder if they are even looking at the same game they shipped to us. All the things they say, maybe they have an in office version thats somehow different than the retail version. It is the only thing I can think of to explain this strange disconnect...
It's conceivable that they're not looking at the same version. There have been a couple of cases where what got burned onto the gold master wasn't the right set of files.
But not likely.
Whatever may have or have not happened it certainly is a catch-22 for Bioware. So I hope for the best with the Extended Cut.

Performing a certain action at the end has been said (by Thomas Abram, no less) to "add" 1000 EMS points, but it doesn't. I did a speed run-through and ended up with around 2300 EMS. I was able to perform this action, but when I was given a choice at the end, I was only given two options. If I had had 1000 EMS added, I would have been given three options. So let's put that theory to rest. I'm pretty sure what he means is that performing that action lowers the requirement for the extra scene by 1000 points, which we knew already, hence why we are saying 4000 EMS instead of 5000.
I had 3650 EMS - made TIM 'do something' and just for the sake of it - to check if that action counts - I chose Destroy option - and no, I didn't have suddenly those miraculous 4650EMS, meaning no 'Shep is breathing' ending. I don't even mind for not being able to get that particular ending since actually I'd never choose it, unless I decide on purpose to see such Shepard - but this is a matter of principle. Mass Effect was always about single player and I pre-ordered it as such and I did believe BW when they said that SP experience won't suffer because of MP aspect - and I sincerely hope they will do something to keep their end of the bargain - no one should be forced into MP - this is a game, not job or chore. Mass Effect 'til ME3 was single player and during initial advertising, it still was single player.

You have to get to 5000 points for that ending. The action with TIM is (supposedly) worth 1000 points, meaning you would've needed 4000 points *before* you got to the point in order to hit the magic number.
