In my time playing Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, I've noticed that most players of experience are adamantly committed to using only the most efficient and capable builds possible, which generally means using the Carnifex Heavy Pistol on all classes (excluding Infiltrators, who can cart around a Black Widow or a GPS instead thanks to the magical recharge power of Tactical Cloak...more on that later). However, the same people who generally use these most effective of builds also tend to come onto the forums and complain that the game is too easy, even on Gold, and that most of the weapons are useless because they're too heavy (Paladin, Saber, Claymore) or can't get headshots easily (Revenant), or they don't do enough damage (every AR/SMG in the game). When other, more casually fun-seeking players have suggested that these elite players use different builds in order to experience more weapon variety and increase the difficulty a bit, they angrily dismiss these offers as "stupid, because then I'll be gimping myself". (They also tend to follow such statements with self-reassuring comments about the scrubby nature of these other players and how the people who keep offering these horrid suggestions couldn't possibly play on anything except Bronze. But, of course, that's neither here nor there). And then, as a result of this dispute, everyone involved is unhappy. But I had an idea that could fix all this, an idea that would allow these best and most efficient players to amp up the difficulty to something more in line with their skills and abilities while simultaneously ensuring that more than three weapons are used by the upper crust of the playerbase. And so, I present to Bioware one simple, straightforward, easy change that should be made to Mass Effect 3's multiplayer that would make everyone's gaming experience better (except the geth farmers, and I'm not really concerned with their welfare). Here it is:

Nerf the Carnifex. B)

Yes, that's right. Nerf the Carnifex. Severely. And while you're at it, nerf Tactical Cloak too.

Wait. Before you  all over your keyboard, just listen for a second. The Carnifex presents enough stopping power to kill vitrually any non-elite enemy in the game, on Gold, with 1-2 easy headshots, while still weighing little enough to reach a 200% cooldown on any class. This (understandably) makes it the uncontested most efficient weapon to use on any powers-focused class (that is, any non-Infiltrator. More on that later.). But there are plenty of other interesting, viable weapons in the game that are more than effective enough to allow Gold to be completed, should they be used in the hands of skilled players, and none of these weapons ever get used by a non-negligible fraction of the playerbase (on account of their defenders getting repeatedly kicked from Gold games until they conform to existing norms). But if we nerfed the Carnifex down to the same quality level as these weapons (ideally by adding weight to it and lowering the accuracy), then other builds and other playstyles could actually be explored, and as an additional side effect, by removing the most viable weapon for Gold, Gold difficulty will...big surprise!...get more challenging.

So, BSN, this is what we should do to make our collective playing experience better. (Although, I don't realistically expect any of you to agree with me. Guess I should just hope that you think about what I've said while you find new ways to figuratively burn me at the stake for blaspheming against the Great God Carnifex and slandering his Prophets.)

(One last thing: I did promise twice to discuss Tactical Cloak. So here's my solution: make cloak's minimun recharge time not a flat 3 seconds, but half the time of the full recharge. This would discourage players from spamming heavy snipers without penalty on the Infiltrator, bringing this class closer in line efficiency-wise with the other existing classes.)

Yes. Nerf the last purely good weapon. Now we'll all suck equally, then EVERYONE is having fun!

Or, they could just buff the trash guns in this game and make them worth the cooldown penalty.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Buff the other guns that suck before the nerfs. I love my carnifex because I can't seem to ever get a paladin.

Nerf the Nerfherders.

The Carnifex is already nerfed (low ammo count).

Oh and OP, someone nerfed your punctuation... needs a buff.

I unlocked the Arc Pistol the other day and wanted to try it out on a game and was roundly criticized for it not being a Carnifex. They booted me.

Maybe what Bioware needs to do is create a Platinum level that is all bosses and shielded foes only on every screen and then let the "Gold's too easy" group mess with that

Nerfing another weapon because it is viable is not a way to fix anything especially since the game is not competitive. The fact that anything has been nerfed, especially Ultra-Rares, is ridiculous.

Tactical Cloak gets better as you develop it. Nerfing it cheapens the hours of hard work it takes to level up.

Also which pack has the Carnifex?

Agreed but since people here are generally completely against nerfs you are going to get a lot of hate for this thread.

I don't use that gun often, but at first - I thought it was too good, now I just don't care!

So all in all, I disagree with nerfing the Carnifex and TC.

Herp derp a weapon is good so it must be op

Get real, falcon, gps, snipers etc are all better anyway. This game doesn't need more nerfs, a lot of stuff could use some buffs though.

Nerf nothing.

Game is meant to be a fun friendly Multiplayer game.

Not a hardcore competitive game.

It was awesome when it first came out, now, its starting to feel like a grind.

Btw, when you start a new character and lose a half a dozen rounds or refuse to be allowed into higher ranking missions because of your level, you learn to appreciate anything that gives you an edge.

The OP is actully correct, When trying loadouts for my character I always keep coming back to the Carnifex. Any power using character will find a Carnifex is the best option in most cases, Excellent damage, Accuracy, Weight all in one package. Add a scope and anyone can be a sniper. Add Piercing Mod and Guardians, Brutes, and Ravagers are easily dealt with.

A small downward tick in accuracy at long ranges just to stop it from becoming a hand sniper rifle.
