Shepard "EDI, I'm setting up a bridge."
EDI: "I've taken down his firewalls and now have a new body - the citadel."
Shepard "Good work EDI."
EDI: "Switching off the reapers... teleporting the whole team up the beam you used...aaaaand... into the Purgatory bar for a celebratory drink and dance."
*Cutscene* Citadel becomes a party ship.

EDI: "But the probability of success was near zero. And ultimately, they failed. No prisoners escaped."
Shepard: "Are you saying submission is preferable to extinction?"
Oh wait... that was an actual conversation between Shepard and EDI...
Let me try again...
Shepard: No matter what kind of technology we might find, it’s not worth it.
Illusive Man: Shepard, you died fighting for what you believed. I brought you back so you could keep fighting. Some would say what we did to you was going too far, but look what you’ve accomplished. I didn’t discard you because I know your value. Don’t be so quick to discard this facility. Think of the potential.
Shepard: We’ll fight and win without it. I won’t let fear compromise who I am.
Well, that's not EDI at all...
EDI: "Moral Decisions should not be made in a Vaccuum. If I do not ask the crew for their opinion, I could miss crucial context."
That's better...

one more thing: if coms were good enough to talk to Hackett just a moment ago, why should Shepard make this decision on his own? Shouldn't he report back to Hackett, or ask for advice?

Maybe Shep's communicating device was on low battery/battery died when that crucial moment happened? Hm..
Edit: I'm not being serious XD although I'd seriously want to find out why Shep contacted no one

EDI's generally always there to provide Shepard schematic assistance and technical support while on missions. Since we've generally clarified that there was nothing wrong with the communication channels... (http://social.biowar...ndex/11337046/1)
Why didn't Shepard notify anyone about making it to the beam? Especially after hearing for himself that the ground forces think no one made it.
Why wouldn't Shepard consult EDI instead of taking the Reaper King's word at face value? Why was there no communication made to the squadmates with you during the beam run (especially if your love interest was with you)?
Bioware, ME fans.... you have the floor.

Apparently, Bioware didn't think that fans would want to debate the Reaper King, or call for clarification, etc. They assumed we'd all take him at his word.
I take that as an insult. Bioware knew we wanted closure, instead, they gave us this.

I'm sure they knew, they just assumed that what they gave us would have been enough for most.

Joker: Yes commander?
Shepard: Target the "crucible", lets get rid of the thing that started this mess.
Joker: Aye aye commander!

EDI: Done, Shepard.
Shepard: Now do the same thing with the thing in front of me and title it Destroy. Quick, i might not be able to maintain consciousness much longer.
EDI: It is done Shepard.
Shepard: All right, now record this and send it out to all our allies. The Citadel has an AI that says its the creator of the Reapers. The Crucible is useless because the Catalyst controls it. What i just passed EDI was what the AI said would control or destroy the Reapers but i can't be sure if its lying. Admiral Hackett or anyone still out there, Anderson's gone and i won't last much longer. The rest is up to all of you.

EDI "I have them, do you want me to send a shuttle?"
"Negative, I'm not gonna make it."
LI "Sheppard, no"
Sheppard "I have to, EDI synch the fleets targetting sensors on my position."
EDI "Synchronised."
Provided you have high enough EMS:
A Turian shuttle, flanked by geth fighter pop up carrying Wrex and Kal'regar's squad of marines.
Sheppard "Wrex?"
Wrex "Sheppard."
They jump out and drag him into the shuttle before flying away.
A medic is treating Shep with an Omnitool
Sheppard "fire."
The star child dies and without guidance the Reapers are stunned long enough to be easily killed, freeing earth and allowing a unified fleet to kill any disorganised stragglers in other systems over a few months.
Credits roll.

That would make a lot more sense than the current ending does. But Shepard was apprently fine, he could run and walk without a limp if he really wanted to (and does depending on the ending you choose).

What about the Control ending?
Shepard: "So if I get electrocuted to death, the Reapers will obey me?"
Catalyst: "...y... yes"
Shepard: "Makes sense to me"
Catalyst: "You'll be dead, you'll control us as a dead man."
Shepard: "Like a zombie?"
Catalyst: "No, you'll be completely dead... disintegrated. You'll lose everything you have, everything"
Shepard: "But the Reapers will obey me then?"
Catalyst: "....yyyeeessss?.. Yes."
Shepard: "... okay, I'll do it!"
