Just to give you an idea the xbox and ps3 versions were 30 bucks at the walmart down the block.

also vgchartz has been proven time and time again not to be accurate.

I see a corrrelation. People who don't know the difference between shipped to retailers and sold to consumers, or don't know how to look up the actual article to see the OP misunderstood, are also the people who think ME3 was great and people who hate the ending are a minority.

What can you not be made to believe?

Looks like an OVERWHELMING MAJORITY loves the ending.

No. An overwhelming majority just don't bother posting about it on the internet whether they loveit or hate it. No one knows how the majority feels. Most just don't care about the pissing match.

So...How many of those 4 million were shipped back?

Also, i'm pretty sure Mixorz (troll) is also Luzarius (troll), either that or Mixorz loved Luzarius's troll thread from a day or two ago so much he had to make an identical copy of it tonight.

Isn't it 4 million units shipped, not sold?

PR spin people. Amount shipped to retailers does not entail actual amounts purchased by fans. Right now sellers have over 1.5-2 million copies of the game they haven't yet sold which is why ME3 is selling for less than $30 in some places.

True sales are hard to determine but as of last check vgchartz had them at 2.25 million sales give or take. Nowhere near 4 million.

Always watch for number of copies shipped vs. number of copies sold. 2 different numbers.

This.  You'll usually hear the number shipped at first because it always looks impressive, but it doesn't mean much unless those copies find their way to consumers.

I thought that number was fishy. Thanks! You've given me more "clarification" than BioWare has!

Or aren't aware of it.

Besides, if the ending makes no sense to hardcore Mass Effect fans who know just about every aspect of their lore, imagine how confused all of those casual gamers are. Pretty damn lost.

I'd like to see the numbers for Gamestop trade-ins.

From VGCharts.com, XBOX global sales for the first three weeks:

Mass Effect 1:
Week Ending Week Weekly Change Total
24th November 2007 1 371,676 N/A 371,676
01st December 2007 2 264,335 -28.9% 636,011
08th December 2007 3 140,615 -46.8% 776,626

Mass Effect 2:
Week Ending Week Weekly Change Total
30th January 2010 1 874,373 N/A 874,373
06th February 2010 2 242,740 -72.2% 1,117,113
13th February 2010 3 137,882 -43.2% 1,254,995

Mass Effect 3:
Week Ending Week Weekly Change Total
10th March 2012 1 1,631,609 N/A 1,631,609
17th March 2012 2 340,259 -79.1% 1,971,868
24th March 2012 3 167,540 -50.8% 2,139,408

They've been increasing significantly for every consecutive game.

Its rather funny, despite massively increasing week 1 sales over the 3 games, week 3 sales have barely changed.

4 million shipped. Now I understand the price drops to $25 - Overstocked shelves are being freed up.

So not being vocal about something means that you like it?  Basic marketting says that while many people form opinions about products, only a small few 1-9% are actually vocal about those opinions.  Generally, those who are vocal (positive and negative) do in fact represent, to some degree, the larger purchasing demographic.

I'm not saying that those who dislike the ending represent all of those who are not vocal, but I would venture to bet that the opinions of those who are non-vocal roughly fall on similar lines of division to those who are.

A word of advice, don't take crunched numbers too seriously.

EA counts shipped copies, NDP counts co
pies sold at retail.  If ME2 didn't sell over 2 million copies at the stores in its first month, and merely shipped that many out, then yeah, this doesn't mean 4 million copies sold.  In fact, it doesn't even mean 4 million shipped out, it could easily be 3 million or even the same 2 million, just with a much higher percentage selling up front.

Just thought I'd point that out.

This is quite sad. 4 million people are set to be disappointed due to Biowares false advertising.
