Update:[/b] Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg reportsthat Mass Effect 3 sold 943,000 units on Xbox 360, outselling the PlayStation 3 version 4 to 1.

Wait wait wait...

Mass Effect sold less than a mil on the 360 for the first month. And Microsoft revealing those stats was just to prove that they outsold PS3 4 to 1. sooo.... it's around 1.25-1.3ish million for consoles? PC at best probably sold around as many copies as PS3... so that's actually 1.5 ~1.6 mil for the first month.

I am sorry, how are we arriving at 4 million?

4 million shipped not sold.

only if that includes Pirate vers

I know PC is almost as big as 360 (maybe 10% bigger) anything more is an overstatement

Not surprised the game has done well but there is still no numbers short of :

March 2012 Software Sales Chart
•1). Mass Effect 3 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) - EA - Over 1.14 Million units

and

Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg reports that Mass Effect 3 sold 943,000 units on Xbox 360, outselling the PlayStation 3 version 4 to 1.

So kinda curious what the actual number is.

I agree. If the numbers for the XBox are true then thats a flat 940,000. So asume that PC would do 150% of that which is only 1.4m sales and some 235, 000 from PS3 thats not that bad given the uproar over the game with some 2.5/6m copies sold.

You would be delusional to actually think the PC version outsold the 360 version. The numbers for the PC are most likely around those for the PS3, maybe more.

Then I guess I'm delusional because I do think a game series that started on the PC would sell more copies on the PC then XBox.

My god. some of these BSN idiots STILL haven't realized the DIFFERENCE between units SHIPPED and units SOLD.

And seriously IGN... this is your JOB. You can at least understand the rabid fanboys on places like BSN to screw this kind of stuff up, but a member of the gaming press? Really?

The numbers you comment on are sold FROM retailers like BestBuy or Game Stop. The numbers OP is trying to use to make his point are the numbers shipped TO retailers, or in otherwords what they ESTIMATED the demand might call for, your reference numbers are what the demand actually is 25-30% btw, is a HORRIFICALLY BAD sales rate.

Well, I'm not sure what series you're referring to, then. Most of us in this thread are talking about Mass Effect, and the first game of that trilogy was released on XBOX360 some 6 months before it was ported to the PC.

You're most definitely delusional, considering Mass Effect 1 was PORTED to the PC MONTHS after the 360 version was released.

Also, PC ALWAYS sells less than the 360 on majority of AAA titles... by a SIGNIFICANT amount. Even Battlefield 3, an entry for a quintessentially PC franchise, the 360 sales had the PC sales beat by a healthy amount.

didn't Mass Effect start as a project for Microsoft 360?

I think the 360 ver came earlier
....

BAMN

Mass Effect is an action role-playing game, developed by BioWare for the Xbox 360 and ported to Microsoft Windows by Demiurge Studios.

360 was first, sorry factually incorrect people

I realize the difference between copies shipped and copies sold.

The OP in no way recognizes the difference between the two. So I initially assumed otherwise.

And IGN seems to be doing the same when quoting the NPD analyst. There's no way the NPD analyst would say something THAT assinine, especially considering it's THEIR numbers that indicate otherwise.

lol don't just about 99 percent of any threads on any online boards discussing 'sales figures' 'say nothing'?

Anyways, it's nice that NPD finally released their stuff. I was pulling my hair out whenever some idiot (be it pro/anti-ender) linked VGChartz while saying something along the lines of 'i got hard facts. problem?'.

I don't think I've heard from anyone that dislikes the ending speak negatively about the game as a whole entity. BW is a good company but right now, it isn't about trying to discredit their game. It was never the intention to take the hard work that the developers did away from them because it really is a good game. The people who support an ending that reflects how they've played it from the beginning do deserve to see their decisions come into fruition. I know that some people love everything about the game and others who know the game should have taken into account what was promised to them. People may try to say that they are a minority but who's to say that they are just more vocal with their dissatisfaction than others? Some people choose to accept and conform to what they purchased and some choose to utilize their God given rights no matter how minute or silly it appears to others.

I am happy that BW had some impressive sales but that still does not take away from the fact that in order to keep the consumer which helps to pay for their salaries, a real middle ground has to be met. Since they are the company that released the game, they have a moral responsibilty to actually repair what is evidently broken, matter of fact, forget moral responsibilty, just some professional courtesy.

Friends and associates that I've spoken to are split 50/50. Some can give reasons why they like it or don't like it. The truth in all of this is that not every voice for and against it can be count. And with that in mind, does anyone know who the real minority is? I can't answer that honestly, I don't think anyone can at the moment.

Great game, terrible ending but that's just me.

Wrong. It came out on the 360 6 months before the PC. So no, it did not start out on the PC. The Xbox version has always sold more copies.
