He's a mage.
Mages don't display attack, only spellpower. Defense however is still there.

well no i am playing rogue now...i just didn't know they were there
i only looked at the statistics on the right, so i thought it would be next to mental and physical resistance, but i guess not

Attack in this game does not mean attack power, it means how likely you are to hit something. A mage's staff never misses, thusly he doesn't need attack.
