Good to see the circle of Guys-Who-Get-Entertainment is still alive and kicking (Hello, Mr Avellone, how are you?)

In fairness, had Joss written ME3, everyone--EVERYONE--would have died. The universe would have ceased to exist in the final image of the game.
Funny enough, Whedon's material almost always ends happily or hopefully. People can die in the long run, but it always ends on an "up" one way or another.
AFAIK, anyway. Even Angel ended hopefully or bravely.

But Joss would have done it completely differently, and in a way that actually made sense. It would have been so much better than anything Casey Hudson or Mac Walters could have dreamed up.spyridontrilogy wrote...

Truth. They would have died right after the most uplifting part of the game too.

Truedat. Grunt wouldn't have survived his last stand...Tali would have committed suicide no matter what...they would have kept the deleted scene where Harbinger lasers your party members...
Hell, Joker would probably have been impaled by an Oculus laser after flying the squad to Earth.

Really? Whedon's kind of known as the king of unhappy endings...a bit hopeful, but definitely not happy. I think the "up" you mean is more of a "Well, gotta keep truckin' since we're all gonna die eventually."

Oh I know, I wasn't saying it wouldn't have made sense. But hell, he's the only human being who can take the adorableness of Felicia Day and kill it.

Sure. But at least we could have kicked ass in stylish-yet-affordable boots.

Up as in, nothing he's written has ever ended with literally everyone dying. There's always hope in his endings. They're never blatantly happy, but they are "up."

I would have been okay with a tragic ending if it was well done. Mass Effect 3's current ending just feels like... well, you already know.spyridontrilogy wrote...

And, to be frank, a completely dark ending would have fit with ME3.
I for one would have liked to lose to the Reapers, and have the final cutscene be some civilization somewhere in the future finding Liara's data Cache with information on Shepard and the Reapers. Bittersweet ending - bitter that we lost, but sweet that the next cycle may find their only hope in us.
