In fairness, had Joss written ME3, everyone--EVERYONE--would have died. The universe would have ceased to exist in the final image of the game.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened anyways lol....everybody that survived the relays exploding is going to die a very slow and hopeless death

Sorry but Dollhouse > Firefly.

If Joss had written ME3, it would have ended with Garrus betraying shepard, joker getting a spike in the chest, your love interest getting processed, but everyone else surviving to defeat the reapers.

That would be fine.. as long as it made sense and old Joss has been reliable in the past :)

and yeah Joss has said it perfectly.

Also Firefly>Dollhouse.

Dollhouse had potential and i did enjoy it, but wow the ending was rushed. Fox's fault of course.

Yeah but somehow it would have been a fitting end. Unlike certain other people (*cough*Mac and Casey*cough*) the man knows how to end a great story.

Hahahahahahaha.

I had to get that off my chest, good laugh.

Whedon is right though, Art is not yours as the artist, its everyone elses. Its this fact that makes so many artists angsty and upset, because in releasing 'art' to the public, you lose all control over it.

The Artist's interpretation is merely a touch point, something for others to say, huh, thats what the artist was trying to do. Really it has no impact on how they perceive the art, and it shouldn't. Otherwise it wouldn't be art, because it wouldn't speak to you. In more interactive mediums, art can take a life of its own and bite the artist in the ass.

Funny enough, Whedon's material almost always ends happily or hopefully. People can die in the long run, but it always ends on an "up" one way or another.

AFAIK, anyway. Even Angel ended hopefully or bravely.

Really?  Whedon's kind of known as the king of unhappy endings...a bit hopeful, but definitely not happy.  I think the "up" you mean is more of a "Well, gotta keep truckin' since we're all gonna die eventually."

And, to be frank, a completely dark ending would have fit with ME3.
I for one would have liked to lose to the Reapers, and have the final cutscene be some civilization somewhere in the future finding Liara's data Cache with information on Shepard and the Reapers.  Bittersweet ending - bitter that we lost, but sweet that the next cycle may find their only hope in us.

I loved the ending to Angel (imho one of the best endings to a tv series ever) - to me it was a happy ending if not in the conventional sence but there was something very uplifting and that made me smile when I saw it for the first time and infact even when I see it now! And I would have been happy if not frustrated if ME3 had done the same but I would not have been upset.

I would have liked there to be a loose to the reapers option, and the so called 'disney' ending (even if I disagree with the fact that it could ever be a disney ending with so much death and chaos), I think the one thing that JW has always been so good at is reading his audiance and producing an ending (when he has been allowed to) that fits with both the themes of the show and the viewer expectations - ie angel was darker, more mature and almost hopeless than buffy therefor the ending reflected that! And this is what bioware failed to do even if we had a forced ending it should have been in keeping with ME's themes and fan expectations.

Anyho I digress basically Joss Whedon = yay

For a while, I thought it would be great if Firefly could be continued in video game form, hopefully made by BioWare with Joss Whedon as Lead Writer. Not so much anymore. But, who knows, maybe BioWare can reclaim its former glory. Either way, I think Firefly would be best continued in video game form.

I would still pay a lot for a Joss-written BW-style game, whether it's Firefly or something else.  Particularly if the protaganist is voice-acted by Nathan Fillion.  And maybe with Neil Patrick Harris playing the trusty sidekick.

At least with Joss you KNOW someone is likely going to die and it'll be a poweful punch to the gut.

Not a disappointing and collective kick in the quad.

But it would've made sense, given closure, and everyone would've gone out in an awesome blaze of glory that makes the Spartans in 300 seem lame by comparison.

The end of Angel was pretty cool. BSN would have hated it.

Except when Buffy's mother died.

Completely did not see that coming at all....and it was one of the most disturbing, powerful episodes they had.

I think ME reaches that, in parts, but the end doesn't really get there....

I didn't particularly care for it, but it inspired nowhere near the level of horror and disaste I felt for ME3's ending.

And that would have been ok, because it would have been done well, because its Joss. But I would argue that you're over exagerating, Joss's work tends to have only some sacrifice in it, and actually true bittersweet endings. (here's looking at you Serenity).

Indeed.

I know people who didn't like how it ended, but I was generally okay with it.  There was sadness, and stuff unresolved, but Angel was still doing what he did best:  fighting evil and helping the helpless.  The story continued, we just weren't there to see it.

ME3 left me not sure I want to see how the story continues, even assuming this isn't the end.

This isn't directly related to ME3 story and campaign, is it? Why hasn't this thread been closed?
