Very appropriate quote. I agree with him.

Unbelievable amount of speculation of how he would have handled Mass Effect 3 is completely irrelevant.

Joss Whedon is my first and only true love. Faith as a character was only meant to be in a couple episodes but because the fans loved her so much he wrote her into the series. Bioware could learn a lot about how to treat their fans from Joss

This isn't directly related to ME3 story and campaign, is it? Why hasn't this thread been closed?

I guess because it discusses Bioware's perspective of "artistic integrity" as it relates to the ending of ME3, and has a well-known writer/director making his own counterpoint to the definition of art. Plus it's interesting to compare ME3 to Whedon's other works.

Why, do you want it shut down badly?

That's a great quote and given the current climate very appropriate.

None of Whedon's endings felt like a complete downer to me. Some were bleak but hopeful, bittersweet done right.

I don't, but they are usually quick to close unrelated topics. Just wondering.

If JW had written ME3 (other than the fact it would still "feel" different than the previous 2), players would be rightly worried that *any* character could die, including Shepard, at any moment for any wrong (or right) move. Even if Shepard died, it wouldn't necessarily have been the end of the game, either.

Come on folks - let's not forget that Joss Whedon gave us Aliens 4.  He's done some good work (Firefly), but that doesn't make him a genius or authority on art.

Joss says your work is your kid. The ending of ME3 came from the loins of Casey Hudson and Mac Walters, and you people are calling it ugly. Need I say more.

I'm not much of a Joss fan. I loved the first 3 seasons of Buffy, then it went to crap. He's great at coming up with a concept, terrible at seeing it out.

No, we're saying the kid is damaged, broken, and abused and needs better parents.

Awesome quote.

Any true artist accepts that they don't get to tell people what their art means...

<3<3<3 this!!!!! If BW doesn't listen to fans, then at least Whedon should qualify as knowing what he's talking about!

Call him whiny and entitled, I dare you!

LOVE this quote to bits, thank you!

Wut? Practically everyone I talked to about it agrees that Buffy only got better and better as seasons progressed. I mean, the guy even managed to believably retcon in a sister in season five AND foreshadowed it. And it was brilliantly done... it was all brilliantly done.

Oh, and <3 Firefly.

In fairness, had Joss written ME3, everyone--EVERYONE--would have died. The universe would have ceased to exist in the final image of the game.

Probably late to the party but still better than what we got.

Now, now, not EVERYONE would have died.  Just the most beloved characters.

Joker would get impaled, no question.

Why call him that, when he's not doing anything that makes him seem like whiny and entitled?

The opposite has been my experience. And Firefly was mediocre, IMO.

Not especially relevant. I don't think that Bioware has ever begrudged the fans their right to complain or draw their own interpretations of Bioware's games. But they'll make them how they make them, just as Whedon wouldn't go back and redo the last season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to include Luke Perry.

One of the big things is that with Wheadon is that he owns up to his mistakes. He has talked about Aliens 4 in the past and the mistakes he made with it. While Buffy was still ongoing he admitted after a season was over that it wasn’t a strong season and that he wanted to do better for the next one (If someone wants I can try to dredge up those articles, I believe both were in interviews with EW). I think the ending sequences he would have done for ME3 would have been bittersweet but with humor…
As to the going back and changing a TV show using real actors…I would think it’s a lot harder to do that then it is to change a video game ending in todays internet age.

The end of Angel was pretty cool. BSN would have hated it.

See if we had that the "Not Fade Away" style of non-ending, at least Mass Effect would have ended on an epic cliffhanger.

Garrus: So, ten thousand husks between us and the target. Think we can do it, Shepard?
Shepard: Always have before.
Tali: An unstoppable army and impossible odds? Keelah, it must be a tuesday...
Liara: I admire your confidence, but we're going to need a plan?
Garrus: Got any ideas, Shepard?
Shepard: I don't know about you... but personally, I'm going to take out Harbinger! *Reloads shotgun* Lets get to work!

No, but you could go back and read it again before hating against the community again.

We're not calling it ugly. We're saying EA's treating it like a pet.

I must have missed that version of the Firefly movie, the movie I have ends with the crew strike a blow for freedom that costs a few of them their lives but everyone else gets out and flys off to the next adventure.  I din't know there was another cut of the movie out there.
