The end of Angel was pretty cool. BSN would have hated it.

See if we had that the "Not Fade Away" style of non-ending, at least Mass Effect would have ended on an epic cliffhanger.

Garrus: So, ten thousand husks between us and the target. Think we can do it, Shepard?
Shepard: Always have before.
Tali: An unstoppable army and impossible odds? Keelah, it must be a tuesday...
Liara: I admire your confidence, but we're going to need a plan?
Garrus: Got any ideas, Shepard?
Shepard: I don't know about you... but personally, I'm going to take out Harbinger! *Reloads shotgun* Lets get to work!

God Damn it! That would have been awesome! Can we get a movement for Joss to Moonlight on this ending?

Like I said I think video games could really move forward buy employing real writers who have worked on Tv shows and movies and know something about dialog and story structure.  I think both JW and JMS would do a great job writing for RPGs.

For the record, Whedon wouldn't have killed everyone, just Shepard's Love Interest.

Just because he killed Cordelia and Tara.

He didn't kill Inara and Spike returned.

Pretty much the only Whedon couple that's gotten a happy ending is Simon/Kaylee.

Joss Whedon is an amazing writer, a master puppeteer of emotion; literally laughing one minute, crying the next.

Yeah as I said video games still seem to have trouble doing that so I have to wonder with all the money they spend on marketing why video game companies don't hire tv and movie writers to give their scripts some more polish and better dialog.  Seems to me it would pay off in the long run.

And you can be damn certain that had he continued the Firefly story, he would have found a way to end that relationship, either through the death of one of them or some sort of betrayal/falling out.

Honorable mentions
Inara Serra (Malcolm Reynolds' Love Interest) - She was supposed to be dying from an illness, but Whedon had to scrap it due to series cancellation. This is the real reason she left Sihnon, to see the universe before she died.

Katherine "Kitty" Pride (Colossus' Love Interest) - Whedon "killed" her off in the comics, but she was later "saved". Colossus and Kitty have since had a massive falling out; she's now hooking up with Iceman.

Whedon has also been hinting at a possible death in the Avengers movie.

All true, but....
Anya and Xander are already not in love anymore, when she dies.
Darla? Angelus love interest?  Again, love interest?
Fred died, okay but only sort of since Illyria inhabited her body and there were plans for either Fred's memories overtaking Illyria or for the two to split again, if the series hadn't been cancelled.
And does Wesley even count, when you count Fred as dead? Besides he did apppear in the canbonical Angel comic series for a while. as a spirit.

Yes, he does like to kill of chars in love, but I don't think he would have killed of Shepard or the LI, just my opinion of course.

Xander and Anya were still in love. He even still refers to her as "his girl" after Andrew tells him she died.

Darla and Angelus were together for over 300 years. They did everything together. Everything. As far as relationships go for Buffyverse Vampires, Darla and Angelus are the definition of Love Interest.

The Fred/Illyria "battle" has been taking place in the comic book series. Illyria is becoming more human-like due to Fred's memories, but there is absolutely no hint of a Fred resurrection or "split". Like it or not, Fred is dead.

In case it was too subtle for you, Westley was being set up to be Illyria's Love Interest.

Anyway, this short threadjack is over for me.

I said it before and I'll say it again. I think video games would be better off if they hired real writers like JW to write their scripts instead of leading the programers who don't know much about writing do it.

Sure Joss would kill off a ton of characters. But it would be well done and probably not envolve space magic and the star child. Male Shep would probably not get to be in the game but femshep would kick button in sensible boots.

In fairness, had Joss written ME3, everyone--EVERYONE--would have died. The universe would have ceased to exist in the final image of the game.

LOL...

Joss Whedon endings not happy, if you say  Joss Whedon ending is not happy... They good lord forbid you watch any of Tomino  work or any of the Gundam series... you might spiral  fathomless depression.

Agree with the posters who said Joss' ending would have been much more depressing. Shepard's love interest would have died. Garrus would have died. Tali would have died. Kaiden would have died. And in the end Shepard would have died in any possible ending.

That being said, we would have gotten closure, and Shepard would have died the Big Damn Hero.

Eh could have been worse...

Shepard could have set up so that Garrus would be the one to kill him and thus save the galaxy...

Oh no, no. If everyone is dead and the universe implodes upon itself then there would be no one left to suffer.

Best to just pull the "And I Must Scream" trope on Shepard and kill everyone else.

Now granted I never watched Buffy but did anyone here watch the Firefly movie?  Most of the characters made it out alive of that series.

Truth. They would have died right after the most uplifting part of the game too.

"I am a leaf on the wind; watch how I--"

Joss Whedon is a great writer, we should ask him how he would have written Mass Effect 3.

Yeah I mean when people die in his stuff I am sad but I am not upset because they die for a good reason, not just to make the story more goth.
