I hear it all the time that N7 Rating Means nothing....I'm sorry but it means alot when I'm gaming with complete strangers.

A Higher N7 rating means that you have played more, I'm sorry if you are n7 120 and dont promote but compared to a person who is 400n7 I see the 400 as more experience seeing as I DONT KNOW YOU.

Tonight for example was me and 2 friends, we would host and grab a 4th for some Gold matches.  A 80 N7 joins....I take a look at his weapon he is a lvl 18 HI with a Mantis X I'm like ok lets do this......sry to say he should of still been in silver.  I dont mind letting in that lower experienced guy for that phat credit when its me and some friends........but if I'm alone and all I got to go off of is your N7 Rating vs me wasting my time getting wiped on round 6 b/c you dont understand we need to get the devices and move as a team.....

---Now I understand some ppl are 120 or near so and dont promote which is why I check weapons if I see that BW4 or GPS X I give it a go.  Then again how do I even know if you bought it with credits or cash.

the only thing N7 ranking means is that you wont get kicked.

Hell, I still get kicked and I am N7 550+.

Just depends on if people need a spot for their friends.

I deal with it.

It simply shows time spent and even then its deceptive because if you never promote your rank is going to freeze at a lower level.  Someone can be pretty mediocre but play all the time and get a large rank, simply means they play a TON.

In short yea because its the only thing we can really use to gauge if the person has a grasp of the game.

Objectively any >20 N7 means nothing. Subjectively it means a lot.

having a mic and talking with it >>>>> any N7 rating

With a mic and actual communication you can get a N7 1 perform much better than a N7 1000 without a mic

EDIT, I hate typos

That's cool, I guess. Personally, I'd rather not play with people who are so insecure about their ability that they kick others out of fear of losing.

(Signed, guy with N7 left at 360 because I'm playing on Xbox and it struck me as funny.)

I'm only 180 and have been for some time since I don't feel the need to promote and start over for nothing but a number. It has yet to unlock around 6 characters so I'm missing some rating there, I think. Be nice if you got 1 for every match you've played, something to show how much you've played. Or even simply just show how many matches you've played, in addition to N7. I think promoting and starting over just for more N7 is a poor idea.

The highest rating I usually see is in the 400s. I may look more like a "noob" but I'm rarely outperformed and I'm a hardcore teamplayer.

I never kick anyone without first playing with them, unless they seem to be AFK. I once saw a Salarian guy who at level 10 with an N7 of like 47 was good enough I remember him distinctly among all the many people I've played with. He had your back good and outscored the two of the other level 20 people with like N7 200.

It's just a number that shows how often you've promoted, not how good you are. It's not hard to relevel characters.

Totally agree...

People who do Gold without mic's or in party chat without inviting you make me sick.

N7 means nothing i played with a guy that had 1004 N7 and he was so bad it wasn't even funny he must've died in every single wave at least once and this was just a bronze match.

Deep down I feel a little bit good about having an N7 136ish score and always scoring #1.

but if its n120 (no promotes) n180 (only promoted for the bonus pack) or n300 (promoted each class once for optimized respec)

I know they will be fine cuz they have played each class to 20 and hence should have a grasp at what is going on....

also I have a nerd complex so I don't want to go past N180 or else other ppl will think i play the game alot >,>

Lol!

Your argument would only make sense if people learned by playing. High N7 just means more time played, wether they know how to play is another thing.

fwiw, i'm n7 326 now, but i'm really not that great. i win maybe 80-85% of my silver matches, and i can only get through gold if i play firebase white/geth. all n7 level means is you've been playing for a while, and you've promoted a couple characters.

hell, aside from the operation weekend i've promoted just to try new builds because i couldn't get character cards.

weapon loadout means more than N7 rating

You would think PC players would all have headsets...yet only 1/3 of the players I find have some sort of microphone plugged into their computer, and 1/7 of those 1/3 only use said microphone in concordance with speakers to actually communicate with other people.

So all in all, I have a 1/21 chance of meeting a friendly, yet competitive player who uses communication assets to their advantage.

And for player assessments, always look at weapon loadout, class, and class rank. If it all works together, and user is 9+ for silver (with good weapons. Beginners.... go 15+). and 15-17+ for gold...with good weapons.

class setups are important on gold, and sometimes silver. Bronze is a joke, i solo with my lvl 3 infiltrator and still do okay.

If someone has 500+ n7 rank, i take them seriously. It's hard to be that high and still suck.

Im only at 45, but honestly I could be over 100 if I kept promoting my primary class over and over. My skill level would remain at its current level either way though.

I consider weapon rank and character level to be a better indicator of performance than N7 rank.

This same concept is the same thing everyone says in other MP games with a progression rank system. Some people say the same thing about rank in Reach and CoD and they couldn't be anymore wrong than they are. With my low level ranks in each game I steamroll over competition. An inheritor in Reach to me = an easy player to beat.

Progression type ranks in games used to determine a player's 'skill' are about as accurate as musket gun ... in other words not accurate at all in any way shape or form. The many matches I've been in the higher players (not always of course, sometimes it's lower players too) are the ones who tend to rage quit, berate others, and usually don't perform as well. Why is it that my little N7 120 with crappy veteran pack guns like a mantis III has to carry most teams that have N7 300+ to the end of a wave in a silver match (after I revived them several times and they foolishly died again) often?

Shouldn't a N7 of 500+ know by now that running off alone or charging alone into a pile of enemies or staying in an exposed open areas is a BAD idea? I guess not because I seem to run into these players often. I can't go into a match anymore thinking it will be an easy ride when the 'higher ranked players' tend to make the game more of a struggle than the less than N7 200's seem to make the match an easy ride.

All I am saying
is the only way to really judge a player and how good they are is after several matches. One match is not accurate enough to say they are super bad or super good. They might have gotten lucky or just had terrible luck getting ripped off by enemies they didn't see. I am cool playing with any N7 rank and I've never gotten mad or upset when we lose a match. It happens to the best of us so we shouldn't get angry at players for a silly single co-op match that went wrong. Just leave the lobby and move on ... or stay and give them another chance.

I am still slowly climbing up and sit at the 148 range and have come across many in the 400 plus range lately that are quite bad including doing things repeadily make them look like a n00b. I have even outclassed such with my level ones vs their level 10-15s. Yes, an N7 rating means you have experience and higher potential to have the better gear, weapons, and classes that can give you the edge when tackling gold. The N7 rating however still does not consistently support a players skill level. This is not like other games where you have to do more challenging content to get a higher rank or gear. Just doing more challenging difficulties gives you the chance to acquire such things faster.

Even though you are right, time is money in this game. People aren't patient at the best of times, and find it hard to spend 15-30 mins of the few hours of free time they have to gauge whether the random players they have joined are worthy of their time and effort.

It does mean something. I joined a random gold as a lvl 1 and I didn't get kicked.

For three reasons:

1. I have a mic and I can use it.
2. My N7 rating is above 1200.
3. All my rares are at X
