Wasn't he slightly homophobic during the confrontation with Liara and Femshep?

I think Ash and Kaiden were actually both supposed to be bi in ME1 but it was cut. If I recall correctly you can dig out the cut stuff from the files.

to paraphrase a great man...
He was always gay, he just didn't have anybody to be gay with.

Because the S/S crowd demanded it, and Bioware delivered. So much for maintaining "artistic integrity".

This. It's implied during his date on the Citadel that he had feelings for maleShep since ME1, but never acted upon them for various reasons.

As others have already stated, he was originally a bisexual choice for a male or female Shepard. You could say that Kaidan was hiding his bisexuality in Mass Effect 1. With Mass Effect 3 being the end of the galaxy and a very traumatic event for everyone, most people would want to accomplish whatever was in their "Bucket List" or they will become more open with whatever their hidden desires were.

Nope. He was flustered because he was taken aback by the thought that the woman that had been flirting with him was actually into women. Nothing homophobic there.

That's one way of interpreting what he said. I thought about that too. But sometimes I think his tone sounds a little disaproving but maybe it's just beacuse I can't remember his exact tone since it was a long time ago.

Yeah that's basically what I thought as well to make sense of it.

Actually the whole thing kind of reminds me of what  they did to Anders.

First I thought they made Ashley bi too but then I found out they didn't.

Maybe because of her religious beliefs or something.

I think he was just frustrated over Liara's claim that she wasn't a woman when she clearly is. I can find a  video for you if you like.

Actually, the myth that Kaidan and Ash were supposed to be bi has been busted. It was discussed early during development of the characters, then discarded as they felt like they had a good dynamic going with the three love interests. The dialogue that's in there was simply Meer and Hale reading each others lines as they both read from the same script. But since they didn't do multiple takes with Raphael and Kim, some of the stuff sounds quite flirty.

However, since Kaidan didn't have enough of a female fanbase, from a marketing perspective it's pretty obvious why they decided to widen his 'preferences'. If Ashley's male fanbase had been smaller she would have suffered the same fate.

Kaiden isn't gay!

But 'Kaidan' was established as being bi-sexual Posted Image

As someone has already pointed out though, it is heavily implied in Kaidan's date scene that he has always had feelings for Mshep. And as he just nearly had his face crushed by a killer robot now is the time to express them!

it's not so much that's Kaidan's gay its more 'why is male Shepard gay?'. There has been no gay options in the previous games and suddenly he wants to experiment with Kaidan?

I'm happy there are gay options as there have always been lesbian options but this just seems a little out of blue. Mind you, I like to RP so its strange when something very out of character (or what you believe is out of character) happens.

If you're ManShep = Kaidan is bisexual
If you're FemShep = Kaidan is straight

Gay/bi Kaidan does not exist in the FemShep world. They pretty much did to Kaidan what they did to Anders... pure fanservice.

There, you just said it. Maybe Shepard too had always feelings for Kaidan, but never acted on them. And suddenly when Kaidan confessed, he was finaly free to act on his own feelings.
Shepard just waited.

Its not really out of the blue, in fact it creates rather tragic love story of two people who suppresed their feeling for quite along time.

And besides you are Shepard. My Shepard, for example suddenly went lesbian and dumped Garrus for
Samantha.

Edit: Oh and everyone in the galaxy is Shepard sexual. Its like Jack Harkness, he/she can have nearly everyone (cough Joker cough).

 His angry expression always gets me!

Anyway, I too think he is just upset and a bit jealous cause he's got feelings for you and you're playing both him and Liara.

Well, it would have been odd if my male Shepard did a Ianto Jones and suddenly decided after Liara and Miranda it was time for some Kaidan.

If I romance Kaidan then I progress it from ME1 - rather than the whole, "I care about you Shepard" etc he does generally love you. From playing ME1 I just don't feel anything between Kaidan and Shepard other than respect. If Kaidan had perhaps put his foot in it (as he did a lot in ME1 with female Shepard) I would be swayed. Kaidan was hardly indirect and often fell over himself in regards to his feelings.

Well, of course. But I don’t think that anyone who romanced Miranda or Liara in previous games, dumped them for Kaidan in ME3. Kaidan was made into possible s/s option. (btw I always thought Miranda would make a good s/s option, you are basically her Pygmalion)

And if you are in romance, he doesn’t make pass on you. Same with Steve. They are mostly only providing new options.

I am sure there are some single Shepards, who refused to romance people in previous games (mostly poor Jokermancers). If that’s the case, new Kaidan/Shepard relationship works very well.

Two people who had feeling for each other, but never acted on them. And well why he never expressed his interest in first game. Well, that’s Bioware fault, because in the end it was cut from the game. But you can also interpret it as a fear, that  he would be refused, uncertainty, struggle with his own feelings, fraternization rules and so on. And so could Shepard.

This :-) I am not homofobic by any means but I must admit that I would'nt have been able to look at Kaidan the same way if it have been clear in femshep's world that he was bi. I think Bioware did a great job with it, they made sure he was straight and didn't mention being bi in femshep's world but made sure he was bi in mansheps's world :-)
