Is Mass Effect 3 GOTY worthy?

Remember getting the message from the Rachni queen on Illium, and she said "we shall burn the darkness clean"?
To me, that suggested the Rachni would serve a more direct and obvious role in the fight against the reapers. The rachni were a major story point in the game, I mean, you encounter the SAME queen in all 3 games.
You didn't get back most of your squadmates... I was hoping for at least Wrex.
Then the wonky ending. From what I have seen, the ending is pretty much hated universally. Like 80-90% hate, 10-20% like.
IF the ending had just made more sense while still being the same ending, I think it would've been much better received. The ending was sloppy and maybe even seemed a bit rushed. Hopefully the DLC will make it better, I have my fingers crossed. BioWare still a great developer with a great history of games (excluding DA2 and ToR), and I haven't really given up on them. I paid nearly $90 after tax for my CE of Mass Effect 3, and considering I haven't touched the game in over a month now I am starting to regret buying it. I figured it'd be like ME2, which I put 260 hours into. And I paid $49.99 on Steam for that one.
ME3 should've set its stages better, and should've remained more cohesive at the end. What if some anti-Reaper machine or organic race showed up near the end, instead of having to rely on a "catalyst" ending? Even though it still would've been a deus ex machina ending, it would've just made more sense and not gone all wonky.
Anyway, I kinda got off my own topic, but I think ME3 should have been GOTY worthy. Why did they compromise so much?
I don't think it will end up being GOTY, unless the extended cut DLC is received to great praise. Even still, an at least $70 game, and they have to do an extended cut DLC... Just shows sloppiness all around. It probably won't end up making GOTY. Even though it deserved it.
I think Max Payne 3 might be GOTY material tho.

For critics, it will be GOTY.

Yes, I wrote a review for a website I write for and it is my Game of the Year already, there won't be another game which will compel or invoke more emotion from me than this game this year.
Basically this.
Except maybe Bioshock Infinite.
The way I see it: With the current ending-no
With a revised ending-yes.

On the PC, I'd assume Diablo 3 will probably be a strong competitor though (unless it flops). People have been waiting on that game for ages, and if it meets/exceeds expectations, it might be a tough one to beat.
ME3 will be my own GOTY though!

Not if Bioshock Infinite has anything to say about it. Potentially Assassin's Creed 3 as well.
omg how did I forget about Bioshock Infinite? I am seriously looking forward to that one too.

I order soup (ME3) and it is fantastic. As I am finishing the soup, I notice that there is a dead cockroach (ME3's ending) in the bottom of the bowl. Despite being an excellent dish overall, the sudden realization that I have been eating a cockroach my entire meal pretty much ruins any previous enjoyment I may have received several minutes prior.
Basically, I wasn't left with a feeling of satisfaction after completing my meal.

Even though the endings gave way to harsher and more in-depth scrutiny with regard to the other games flaws. Let's assume the endings were truly 16 - all diverse and great...maybe.
Still doesn't account for the import bug, glitches, freezes, auto-dialogue, journal system etc.
Although if the endings were "right" I would likely still over look most of those.

Aww Yeah! I'm hoping Tomb Raider, Max Payne 3, or Hitman Absolution will be in the running for GOTY too.Il Divo wrote...

Resident Evil 6 for Action/Horror (DMC)
Far Cry 3 for FPS (insert random COD)
Last of US for Action Adventure - (Assassin's Creed 3, Dragon's Dogma, Tomb Raider)
Sleeping Dogs for Sandbox
Guild Wars 2 for MMO (if it comes out)
Infinity Blade Dungeons for iOS
Mass Effect 3 vs....... for RPG! (Risen 2, Diablo 3, Last Story, Xenoblade)
Tough one in RPGs. most likely Diablo 3 will win... no one can beat Diablo except Baldur's Gate back in the day.. poor Icewind Dale hahaha

I thought the award was for Best GAME of the year not best ENDING. sure an ending can play a role in the overall score but at best 0.5 of the score. unless you are very bad at reviewing

The ending is what most people remember after they finish playing a game / watching a movie / reading a book. The ending can easily make or break the whole story. The Mass Effect 3 ending is broken and not only ruined replayability for Mass Effect 3, but for the entire trilogy as well.Dridengx wrote...

No. The GOTY needs to be a "complete" product to win such a title. Yes, my opinion is completely subjective, but this is how I currently view ME3 in relation to being a contender to GOTY -

I think that's a great analogy. ME3's ending rubbed even more salt in the wound, when it goes right back to Shepard standing in front of the galaxy map on the Normandy.
