How does the voting for GOTY work? Everything depends on who gets to vote.

GOTY is decided by magazines, review sites etc who each might have their own award. it's not handed out by any one specific organization like for example the Oscars is for movies.

If GOTY is decided by magazines that have a vested interest in EA, then there is a chance it could win GOTY.

In gamers have a vote, there is ZERO CHANCE. In fact, ME3 might win Most Disappointing Game in North America. Heh.

If gamers have the option to vote for it, they will just bomb it because of the endings. The game is 10/10, I hate the ending just as anyone else but if you say it doesn't deserve 10/10 for the other 95% of the game you are wrong and ignorant.

True, 95% of the game was great, but the last 5% created a sh!tstorm that rocked the industry.

It may still be good, but it is not GOTY, right?

No.

Endings aside, ME3 didn't deserve 10s.  It didn't deserve 9s.  It didn't even deserve 8s.  Here's a well-balanced ME3 review that gets it mostly right overall:

Mass Effect 3 Review, Don't Fear the Reapers

Now, let’s factor in the endings.  They’re not-quite-plagiarized (Asimov, Clarke, Deus Ex) dreck that breaks promises Casey Hudson and others made, that doesn't deliver the product as-advertised, that breaks nearly every narrative convention required for successful storytelling, and mauls its own lore and character development.  The game deserves a 5 out of 10 at best—maybe a 6 if it’s Christmas time.

Yet many media outlets and gaming organizations will nominate ME3 for GOTY.  Why?  Because the reviewers, pundits, and others who beatified ME3 are so ego-invested in their statements and evaluations they'll be incapable of doing anything else.  They've already proved it...just as Hudson and Walters seem incapable of accepting responsibility for their failure and moving forward with better endings.

So yep, ME3 will be trotted out as an avatar of GOTY at its finest.  Should be quite the circus--good for some laughs.

All things considered ME3 get's an 8/10. Simple.

The game deserves a 7.5, the ending itself doesn't make it the 7.5 it has numerous other issues and false advertisements.

Actually no... a 6.5, more issues than I thought.

Some people wouldnt give it a 95%, and I am actually one of them.

I thought I was being harsh then I found out some were even giving it a 50%.

Compared to the competition..I'd say no.

Don't get me wrong, its a good game but a few factors which have been mentioned numerous times tarnished it. I'd say it would even struggle to win best RPG of the year against witcher 2.

Plus its still April.

True - if you equally weight the game based on time.

What if the ending made you NOT want play ME1, ME2, or ME3 again?

If you don't weight the value of the game based on time, I think the scores could be much lower.

It really depends on how much you value the ending of an epic story.

No matter what you think of ME3 or its ending, its almost imposibble to say that know, there are a lot of Games coming that can be very Awesome.
ME3 is not perfekt, it has its faults, I too would say its a 8/10 Game - don't count the Ending.
I expect that there will be Games who top it. When you count Witcher2 for this Year (because of the XBox launch) or the Same with Dark Souls (PC Launch this Year) than it has already loose.
Guess Max Payne 3 or AC3 will too be better, but I can't say that for sure know. I just speculate.

The ending fiasco seems to have distracted people from a number of other faults in the game. So no, not GOTY material imo. It's a fairly solid game up to the ending but nothing more.

I would love to know the percentage of "professional" reviewers that rated the game perfect. I heard half of the perfect reviews didn't even mention the ending.

Talk about a major disconnect from the fans.

This pretty much. If I don't count the ending it's still a 7/10 game for me.

i sure as hell hope theres going to be better games then ME3 this year.

jesus if ME3 won game of the year id feel like video games kindof died a lil on the inside.

also, i think bioshock infinite and witcher2 are going to be much more satisfying.

I dunno, who else is in the running? A game doesn't have to be great to win GOTY if all the competition is even more disappointing.

Honestly?

I thought the ending sucked, i posted a IGN gif earlier and i stand by that, EA will most likely buy off IGN as they always have.

But look at skyrim? I played that on the PS3 and it was a nightmare the bugs, stupidly huge save files and despite all it's problems across all platforms it managed to win GOTY and " Best story " despite having a sucky story, skyrim didn't deserve GOTY at all but yet it still won.

These awards are meaningless for example look at SWTOR it was released with a million bugs and it still won awards. The ending might suck but i believe it'll factor little into anything GOTY related.

Which is ashame as awards are being given out to unfinished products.

eeeh?
What you're saying basicly amounts to:
"If we ignore all the crappy parts it's actually a 10/10 game"

True skyrim wasn't all that and people kept saying the story was awesome, some of the side missions were even better than the main quest

Its not only GOTY, it is the GOTY so far. Are you seriously going to tell me that any other game can get you emotionally involved and make you care about pixels as ME does? Most of the famous games this year are all about gameplay and no story whatsoever, so I could care less about any of them.
