If anything, people should push it out of the race

With Diablo 3, Max Payne 3, AC3 and possibly GTA5, I seriously doubt ME3 will win any sort of award, from fans or critics
That's a solid point. It's hard to contest from a percentage basis. ME3... will... die.
Halo 4 will win, it could have the worst endings possible, maybe even worse than ME3's and still win, because if the starchild and liara are, as the fans have put it, "the writers pet" than halo is the "gamers pet".
It will win because it is halo, and halo wins in whatever category it runs in, regardless of competition or merit.

Max Patne 3 i'd wait till the game comes out see if they "live up" with there promisesMole267 wrote...
I had high hopes for Mass Effect 3. Most of the game lived up to my expectations, but there were things that never came to fruition that I was really expecting.
Remember getting the message from the Rachni queen on Illium, and she said "we shall burn the darkness clean"?
To me, that suggested the Rachni would serve a more direct and obvious role in the fight against the reapers. The rachni were a major story point in the game, I mean, you encounter the SAME queen in all 3 games.
You didn't get back most of your squadmates... I was hoping for at least Wrex.
Then the wonky ending. From what I have seen, the ending is pretty much hated universally. Like 80-90% hate, 10-20% like.
IF the ending had just made more sense while still being the same ending, I think it would've been much better received. The ending was sloppy and maybe even seemed a bit rushed. Hopefully the DLC will make it better, I have my fingers crossed. BioWare still a great developer with a great history of games (excluding DA2 and ToR), and I haven't really given up on them. I paid nearly $90 after tax for my CE of Mass Effect 3, and considering I haven't touched the game in over a month now I am starting to regret buying it. I figured it'd be like ME2, which I put 260 hours into. And I paid $49.99 on Steam for that one.
ME3 should've set its stages better, and should've remained more cohesive at the end. What if some anti-Reaper machine or organic race showed up near the end, instead of having to rely on a "catalyst" ending? Even though it still would've been a deus ex machina ending, it would've just made more sense and not gone all wonky.
Anyway, I kinda got off my own topic, but I think ME3 should have been GOTY worthy. Why did they compromise so much?
I don't think it will end up being GOTY, unless the extended cut DLC is received to great praise. Even still, an at least $70 game, and they have to do an extended cut DLC... Just shows sloppiness all around. It probably won't end up making GOTY. Even though it deserved it.
I think Max Payne 3 might be GOTY material tho.
ME3 had GOTY promises before the game came out. Not likely to happen...afterwards

Given that Omega and Illium are removed at the start of the game, no. The former is held by Cerberus (supposedly), not overrun by Reapers, and the latter would seem to be a low-priority target for the Reapers.
Given that the Journal is practically useless, no.
Given the lack of boots-on-the-ground, "I have located an anomaly" side missions, no. Rescuing some of the War Assets - instead of them going "Here we are! We would have joined you sooner, but we're Turians, so we couldn't get the sticks out of our collective asses until someone else randomly appeared and told us where to go!" - might have made it feel more worthwhile and rewarding.
Given the lack of enemies, no. When fighting the Geth, where are the damn tanks? Suddenly, they've given up on using Armatures, Juggernauts, and Colossi? The Hanar couldn't be that tough to conquer, and they'd make some freaky Reapers. A Krogan and Turian have to be mashed together to create a Brute, and Turians become Marauders, but Krogan Reapers don't work?
Given the lack of actual dialogue choices, no.
Given the lack of interrupts, no.
Given the even-more-linear-play-than-ME2, no. Priority = go here now. Had there actually been some choice as to which order to complete the Priority Missions, sure. Imagine how much differently the game could play out if Thessia is your first stop.
Given the lack of actual impact of past decisions for fans of the series, no. How much does what my Shepard did in ME1 and ME2 really change the game? Short of a tally on the War Asset board, not much.
AND
Given the disappointing handling of, and multiple broken 'promises' of, the ending of the trilogy, NO. If ever there was a time for Interrupts, Red/Blue dialogue options, and a true culmination of experience leading to a choice that fits your Shepard's experience, it was here. That didn't happen. It isn't going to happen.
Game of the Year for 2012? Borderlands 2. From all accounts, 2K and Gearbox still appreciate their fanbase.

The other biggest aspect of the game, the combat, is certainly fun and is the best the ME series has had, but it's not quite strong enough to help ME3 with GOTY consideration.

Put it this way, defintely not as close as last years awards were. Man LOTS of great games came out of 2011 but just like Red Dead Redemption earned the win from ME2, Bioshock: Infinite will steal it from EVERY OTHER GAME.

- Assassin's Creed 3
- Diablo 3 which I hate with a passion but will probably win everything.
- The Witcher 2 Extended for 360 and PC.
- Tribes: Ascend (That's up to you)
- Deus Ex: Human Revolution for the MAC (I think that counts).
- Battleship based off the wonderful movie based off a ... board game. (Yup).
- Prototype 2 (the first one was crap)
- Minecraft for the XBLA (Oh yeah!)
- May Payne 3 (Because we needed another)
- Spellforce 2: Faith in Destiny (Cult following)
- Dragon's Dogma which I expect will be in the nominations.
- Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier & Online.
- Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion
- The Secret World.
- Darksiders II (Lolllllllllll)
- Dark Souls for the PC.
- Borderlands 2.
- BioShock Infinite
- Resident Evil 6
- Medal of Honor: Warfighter
- Aliens: Colonial Marines
- Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition
- Call of Duty 9
- Brothers in Arms: Furious 4
- Dishonored
- End of Nations
- DotA 2 (And they can't even label it properly in their own labels)
- Hitman: Absolution.
- Halo 4
- Kingdom Under Fire II
- Guild Wars 2
- Fable: The Journey
- MechWarrior Online
- Orcs Must Die! 2
- Prey 2
- War of the Roses
- Torchlight II
- Tomb Raider (Reboot)
- XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Reboot)
- X Rebirth
- Far Cry 3 (I personally hate Far Cry)
That being said, the VGA's are not an adequate source of fair and balanced rating or quality. No one really cares what they think anymore.[/quote]
I don't think BioShock infinite will be the victor.

No, There are a lot of bad games pre 2001 an a lot of games post-2000 are good games, but the Halo series isn't even in the top 20, and I have all of them up to ODST.

No game that gets this much of an uproar deserves GOTY, simple. And there are more problems than just the ending in ME3, that is something we should all know by now.
It won't win GOTY, simple. Halo 4 will.
It is cool that you got what you wanted, but that is not what most people got from ME3.

I think its justified to say the gaming industry is damaged. People harp on about how the fans treated Bioware regarding their upset with ME3. How about how the gaming industry treated us? A lot of hig profile industry sites and publications have treated US, the paying customer like dirt.
I appreciate there has been some venom on both sides of the argument but IMHO the most objective "reviews" of this game came from the fans, not the industry. How the hell can a game recieve an objective review if you dont even finish playing it?
On topic- no, it shouldnt get GOTY this outing. I generally do like the game but it has some frustrating game play elements (auto dialogue, eavesdrop side missions, planet scanning, HAVING to play MP to get a high enough EMS rating, to name but a few) that should be considered in adition to the poor endings and false promises.
I know the EC is coming but at this stage i still dont think Bioware truly get what all the upset and rage was about, and using the Artistic Integrity card is frankly getting tired and annoying. There is zero integrity in stealing someone elses idea. Show some originality and i may have accepted that.
So no to GOTY and maybe just maybe they may finnaly get it.

I enjoyed the main missions (the ones relevant to the plot), the optional missions that affect the plot, the ME 2 cameo missions and only a handfull of the Citadel quests.
I loved the scanning mini game. ME 3 lacked minigames but scanning planets and running away from the Reapers! Never got old.
But being reduced to an eavesdropping errand boy/girl. Not great.
Diologue was great. I did have some interesting dilogue options. I loved both renegade and paragon ones.
Geth/Quarian and Krogan story arc not only took into account decisions made in ME 1 & 2, it took into account decisions you made during the arcs themselves. Pretty much 80% of everything that was amazing about single player is contained in those story arcs. This is why I am on my fourth playthrough.
I loved the hell out of multiplayer for a good couple of months. But now I want some new addition other than 11 waves of hell. I've got most of the guns and most of the classes. If only there were more mission types. Adding the Collectors as a faction wouldn't hurt either.
I don't know about "Game of the year", but I am one of a minority in this world who enjoyed the hell out of Mass Effect 3 (despite the ending). I still recommend this game to anyone who hasn't played it. As for "Game of the year" how about a game that hasn't been overhyped and is one no one has heard of.
An experimental game with a new concept and level design never seen before. That should win GOTY in my opinion.
