True. Like i said, i don't know how Skyrim manged to skate by so unscathed, i know their trust with sony fanboys is completley shot, and allot of people are sore about it but to me it seems BW and Bethsada's postions should be switched. I mean the save probelsm and numerous glitches were publizied as well.

I'm not making my **** with skyrim up.

Shall I explain why to you?

Bethesda already have a shot to bits reputation. People EXPECT their games to be buggy heaps of crap on release. People EXPECT mod tools, and EXPECT that Bethesda will leave it to modders to fix their game.

Thats why.

Up until the wobbles with Dragon Age 2 and now the disaster with  Mass Effect 3 Bioware had a sterling reputation. People expected triple A with Bioware and feel betrayed when we get a game that barely scrapes a B-.

To be fair to Bethesda their games are a LOT more ambitious and immersive and all-encompassing than Bioware games. You can't really compare them, at least not anymore.

EDIT:
It is also my opinion that Mass Effect 3 doesn't deserve GOTY. Even without the sucky ending.

It's intro doesn't do the job an intro is supposed to do.
The game is too "dumbed down" compared to its predecessors. No optional skills, no mini games.
There are some real cringe worthy moments in the Voice Acting. "STEEEEVEEEE!!!" Anyone?
The journal in this game is fundamentally broken.
The most boring lameass side quests of any Mass Effect yet.
Multiplayer is probably the most boring, repetitive multiplayer ever created. It is not rewarding.
And when you add the nonsensical and insane ending?

You get a game altogether crappier than ME2 and ME1. A game that absolutely does NOT deserve GOTY.

There are and will be other games out this year that deserve it more.

Yes. 5 minutes of meh doesn't ruin 2400 minutes of pure linearity, railroading, cheap substitutions, autodialogue, lies and a complete lack of choices and satisfying conclusions

Fixed.

Pretty much this.

I think people who bashed the game due to the ending is a bit harsh. It's at least nice to know they are doing something about it, with the EC.

They (Bioware) have IMO, over the series, listen to fans, & made some improvement due to fans requests, like make Garrus & Tali romanceable, bring back guns & armor customisation (although limited), as well as took away the chore that is the stupid planet scanning. I also totally do not miss the mini games in ME1 & 2.

They could do better for sure, like better intro for those that did not play ME 1 & 2, then put everything into the codex. A 10mins video before the start of a new game (optional) that summaries the event of ME1 & 2 would be fine.

The Photoshop job at Tali, as well as the last 10 mins are very bad, but at least they are doing damage control with the EC. These still doesn't take away from the 40+ hours of fun.

I'd contest that and say it depends on what perspective a given person has on the ending. Someone who think it merely lacks quality might not consider it to be as big an issue as someone who considers it a fundamental betrayal of the themes of the entire series. There is a difference there, and there is ample reason to suspect that the EC will not satisfy a lot of people, because no matter how many extra cutscenes BioWare puts in there, the way the whole thing was structured will still undermine or betray the entire series' framework.

In the latter case I can completely understand why some would mark the whole game down and claim it felt like a pointless exercise to them.

no its not, even ignoring the ending issues it is by far the least RPG like game bioware has ever made. less dialogue
squad mates from previous games got the absolute bare minimum amount of attention
less choices both in dialoge through the story aswell as with character relationships
most of the characters didnt get the game time they deserved and were instead replaced with the 2 worst creations in history

it is at best an ok game, i woulnd even compare to other bioware games though so no its nowhere near GOTY worthy

Face it, ME3 will only win the award for most disappointing game of the year.
Halo 4 will get GOTY.

Sorry guys, but Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition is just better than ME 3 overall. Plain and simple.

Gonna be a fair comparsion once ME3 has a year+ of DLCs out. Let's not act like it didn't take Enhanced Editions for both Witchers to be trully great

It depends on what is out at that point. Right now, it's the best game to be released in 2012 thus far, considering only new releases. The Witcher 2 though is probably better if you want to include the GOTY/rereleases group.

However, there is still a good lineup ahead. Civilization V (I thought it already was out), Far Cry 3, Halo 4 (you never know), Borderlands 2, Assassin's Creed 3, and Resident Evil 6. Out of those, FC3 and RE6 have the greatest potential. Most if not all of which will be more seamless in execution and taking their franchises to further points.

It will be Halo 4.
As for Assassins Creed 3, America!!!

It is. You're probably thinking of the expansion for the game that's coming out soon.

I doubt it. That'll be going to Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, BioShock: Infinite, Dishonored, Assassin's Creed III or Resident Evil 6.

Got delayed to 2013, actually. I'm not terribly happy about that.

I suppose it's a no brainer that it's currently #1 with a bullet insofar as being "Most Controversial Game of the Year".......so there's that.

GOTY though, probably not. I don't even think it will get RPG of the year.

BLOPS2 is not even a contender. Too little changes, too much franchise fatigue. Same with AssCreed unless it's utterly brilliant. Halo 4 and RE6 have a shot. Dishonored will have to be super amazing to steal the attention as a newcomer. BioShock already got delayed till 2013

I dont know where to place ME3 and if it's worth a GOTY award.

Cant Run, Bad, Poor, Average, Good, Very Good, Perfect are usual words thrown around. Or some should and other shouldn't be used here.

I'd say that IMHO ME3 is somewhere between good and very good (with my pov. on ending).

I'd hope a GOTY was a game that, no matter the category, was between very good and perfect (or awesomest since nothings perfect).

OK, I think it will win GOTY, for the reason it has garnered all this attention from the overwhelming fan dislike of the ending, and the resulting response from the media and the developer community.

EA/BioWare made the ending for a purpose, not just because it was their artistic vision, but because of the discussion it made afterwords. The attention it has attracted pushed the Mass Effect brand into the mainstream media, in a both non-positive and non-negative way. Whether or not the fans want to admit it, that attention has made ME3 sell just to see what the fuss is all about.

And, whether or not you like or dislike the ending, up until that moment of controversy, it was a fantastic game that combined the best of ME2, with most of what we missed from ME1.

I believe that the quality of the game sans-ending, with the attention that was received with the ending, there is no doubt that ME3 was the talk of the gaming community in 2012, and therefore it will be GOTY.

Huh.  I gotta say, this time, I'm with Arcian.  For those of you who say that the ending alone cannot ruin the entire game, on the contrary.  It actually makes the errrors mentioned above worse.  Even if you liked it, and I mean all of it, not the occasional epic, or touching scene, it was still all cheapened by the ending.  Why?  It's simple.  The ending didn't close the story, it told the player that everything that you ever did was totally and utterly worthless.  Tha's it.  The end.  No matter what CHOICES you made, they have no impact.  Now do you like the 2400 minutes spent in this game.  Because those minutes, those hours, those DAYS were spent increasing an arbitrary number.  yay.  now what.  Everyone ever mentioned, or influenced, or saved, or whatever means absolutely nothing!  The ending to a story is totally and entirely inseperable with the body.  The two must coexist, and where one fails the other fails with it.  The ending failed in Mass Effect 3, that is why it has no chance at being named the best of anything, unless of course EA is willing to throw even more heaps of money away, for absolutely no reason, which they would not do.

Whether it is worthy of the title "GOTY" will depend greatly on what they do with the EC. Personally, I don't have much confidence that BioWare will do anything substantial with the EC, but I would love to be wrong.
