Is Halo 4 really the only legitimate competitor you see? With other highly anticipated games out or coming out this year it just seems strange that someone would think only Halo 4 stood a chance.

It really dose, Bioshock has been delayed, max payne fell short, Residen't Evil 6 could maybe be up to snuff but i think they have beaten that horse to death, and wont be up to snuff. Assasins creed has a good shot too, but i need to see more befor i change my mind.

Ive seen good things from sleeping dogs, but its a long shot.

so yes i see it coming down to ME3 vs Halo 4

You basically just summed up the entire final battle of the game. That being said, I just think ME3 was far too watered down to win GOTY. Had it possessed an amazing story (from beginning to end) on par with ME1 combined with the gameplay of ME2 and the few improvement ME3 brought to combat I would have gladly accepted it as GOTY-worthy.

Skyrim DLC will be GOTY - not halo 4 or ME3. (HUGE Halo fan btw) and yes, I know DLC is not a game, but it will be "meaty". It will be better than any game coming out this year, and because of that be considered a nominee. If not then MineCraft. lol, no seriously though it's Borderlands 2 all the way.

You forgot Diablo 3 which well could take it, oh and COD:BOPS 2. Also Borderlands 2, Prototype 2, New Spiderman game, DoA 5, etc.

In all honesty not one game released so far this year deserves a GOTTY, gaming is standing still and gamers are getting regurgitated design or squeals with little to no advancement. Diablo 3 (Activision would need deep pockets to buy that title) is very average. Skyrim, what? no, swords and sorcery sim without soul, it doesn't deserve it, it is just more of the same thing from Beth. Gaming this year is so bad I find myself reloading older games just to enjoy myself, pitiful state of gaming. Hell, I would give indie companies a better show then the so called AAA game companies... example only, Torchlight 2.

Just BTW - Activision and Blizzard are the same thing. Their parent company is Activision-Blizzard with Robert Kotick as CEO.

So, technically, if Diablo 3 was bestselling PC game of all time (and it was) - Kotick can buy another villa and jet.

Skyrim is last year's GOTY so it's out of competition this year. Bethesda (as publisher, nto developer) have another candidate for 2012 - Dishonored.

If 343 Industries can live up to Bungie's Halo games, then I think Halo 4 is possibly one of Mass Effect 3's biggest competitors. I'm a big fan of both series, but to be honest I think Mass Effect 3 takes the cake. Just without the red, green, or blue frosting.

i agree, Halo 4 looks good, but iam worried it will end up being just more killin elites for 5 hours.

Halo has a great story i want  some real focus on it this time like in reach.

When a game single-handedly ruins an entire franchise and invokes a massive upcry, I don't think it deserves GOTY status.

Personally I found Skyrim as dull as its predecessor. Too little content for the size of the map, too much wandering about and encountering nothing at all. It would really have benefited from having the map shrunk by 25% and having a stronger main campaign

Mass Effect 3 for me doesn't deserve a GOTY title either. Just setting the ending aside the moment you still have the issues with the journal, the eaves-dropping side-quests, the lack of exploration, the dialogue, the lip-synching, the face importing.

I could go on but for every great moment like Mordin on Tuchanka, there were several poor moments such as the conversation with the Rachni Queen that acted like an anchor and dragged the game back down.

Then of course you add the ending back in and that, for me, shatters any chance Mass Effect 3 had at taking a GOTY award.

Oddly the bright spot of Mass Effect 3 is the multi-player, which has been my favourite part of the third game and that is something I never thought would happen.

The only game standing out for me so far this year has been the Walking Dead.
