ME3 WAS GOTY worthy until gamers experienced the ending. I totally had it GOTY no contest before those last 10 minutes.
1- Eavsdropping was lazy and cost saving unlike ME1 and ME2 in which picking up missions resulted in cutscenes.
2- Thessia's campaign was to short way to short. So much for the Asari Homeworld huh?
3- The Rachni played next to no real role other than very little War Assets. BioWare had built this up since the beginning when you saved her. In the second game the asari on ilum told you that the rachni would fight by your side, did they? Technically yes but it was lazy to shove them into the war assets section.
BioWare seemed to adopt a lot of cost cutting measures in order to rush this game out. The ending was the worst of it all but this game should never be considered for game of the year. But i'll bet that IGN will give it GOTY regardless of it's shortcomings.
You want to talk about lazy, look at Diablo 3 dialog (which is like 100x less than ME3), most conversation are a dialog box poping out with the character face picture, & the game took like 7 years or so...
Most cutscenes (which are also not alot) are like powerpoint animation of a stretch artworks in D3.

I guess I'm not sure what the value of GOTY is exactly. I can buy any number of GOTY games...Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Doom games, Half Life(?), etc. It seems almost any game I've played or wanted to play has a GOTY edition I COULD buy so I wonder...who decided it was GOTY? Do you just get to call it that? Do we have a Gamespot GOTY vs other site GOTYs?
Is this all a personal GOTY question? I STILL would refuse to give an answer even if ME3 was everything and MORE than I hoped because I insist on being fair and proper...can't name something "something of the year" before the end of the year. Who knows what I might stumble upon before the year is out?
Halo 4 comes out in november, many of the other games will have been released by then, and halo will still be the best.
Nah. Just an xbox shooter. Never played it don't care to. Halo schmalo.
Halo 4 will get GOTY.

So will ME3, Max Payne 3, Half-Life2: episode 3, Diablo III, etc. Any game that any fair number of people enjoyed playing will become "GOTY" editions. Big whoop. Halo 4 or whatever will be one among many.
Also...pretty funny pre-judging a game that hasn't even come out yet as being a GOTY! I was/am opposed to people sticking such a label on ME3 irrespective of the ending or other flaws because it isn't even near the end of the year yet. See how this thing works? You don't label a game that only just released near the beginning of the year as "GOTY!" because there are a number of other games THIS VERY YEAR set to come out. You most assuredly don't label a game that is yet to show its face a "GOTY". That is even a worse offense the former.

No, they won't because too many of their own fans are dissapointed with to much of the game.AdamJenson wrote...

Halo's main trilogy games always won and halo 4 will win as well. Halo 4 comes out in november and i don't see many real competitors for it that are coming out before it or after it. There are some good games sure, but nothing as good.
Halo 4 will get GOTY.

You just proved his point. You're speculating on a game that hasn't been released yet because of fanboyism.
I said the exact same thing a few days back - until you get to the end of 2012 and tally up critical/commercial reaction to every game release, you won't know what the GOTY is. Saying "Halo 4 is GOTY because the others were" is just as bad as saying "ME3 is besides the ending". It's way too soon to call anything.

The part where i mention how the others were is because it is proof that platform exclusive games like halo do get GOTY.

Of course not, but people expect a complete package. I am not talking about good story, just presentation. How can people even fault ME3 for laziness, when most games do not have even 1/4 of the content ME series.
Full cutscenes, full dialog with expression & some form of acting, while limited, (in expression ) are there. Imagine, when you moved to a new mission, you get a static 2D artwork & the description of the objective, instead of pre mission chat on hammerhead, & showing the landing. The the dialog changes depends on what teammates you bring. This required a lot of effort!
Max Payne 3(which by the way, was one of my favorite series), which got good review & ages in development, has like 10-15 hours of gameplay, compare to ME, which has to delivered every 2 years.
Unless you compare to a game like skyrim, which took much longer to develop, ME3 is hardly lazy by any standard (except the color coded ending & Tali picture).

Really? Max Payne 3 only has about 10-15 hrs of play in it? Guess I'll wait until it is nice and cheap before I give it a whirl.

My thoughts too. From this Jan to the end of May, there are no new major game releases that can beat ME3 yet.
