Minus the opening and ending the game was freakin' amazing. But its April, we still have 8 more months of games yet. Plus the extended cut has yet to factor in.

There's not much competition. maybe BioShock Infinite. those kind of artsy games always go over well with critics

Grand Theft Auto V is the only major game that would easily push ME3 aside as the favorite for 2012 GOTY. (if it comes out this year)

So far its the best game out ending or no the only contenders will be Diablo 3, Bioshock infinate, GTAV if it comes out this year, and maybe Assassin's Creed III.

Before ME3 was released I would have said it is the best candidate, so I'm not going to bother speculating with unreleased games. It might be that everything from Max Payne to Resident Evil sucks.

But if ME3 deserves even 1 award (there won't be just 1 GOTY) then the year has been awful for games.

No, there's already Journey and if you count rereleases Rayman Origins, Witcher 2 (unless the xbox port is awful) and Xenoblade Chronicles. If ME3 is even a candidate then it will have been the worst year for games in many years. Set aside the ending and it is still plagued by terrible writing, clumsy railroading and much too great an emphasis on its middling-weak gunplay.

Without a doubt it's worthy.  But there's a long way to go and other good games to come.

Just got a funny feeling Infinite will end up winning it.

Only without the ending, if it wins GOTY with the current ending, my faith in the gaming industry will take another massive hit. Any game that has an ending that's so crappy and void of logic that it invalidates the entire trilogy does not deserve to be called GOTY.

Will it win GOTY? Probably yes. We've already seen:

The extended cut should not factor in.

Game releases should not be freakin beta tests.

A game that can generate this much controversy and this much bad PR would be poison to name GOTY, especially with all of the other great titles comming out. Halo or Diablo would be my bet.

Yes, ME3 is worth GOTY as a game but not as an RPG game.

No it is not worthy of GOTY, and yes I love this GIF as well it is so true.

Plenty of critics don't care for the endings, but also just as many don't consider that to be an important flaw when considering for things like GOTY.

That said however, there are REALLY strong potential contenders coming out this year that I can easily see overshadowing ME3.. especially 7-8 months down the line when ME3 will seem even more distant.

Diablo 3 will be a huge ****-block in the RPG category in particular.

Not sure what constitutes for a game to be Game Of The Year.

Is it total sales?
Is it volume?
Does it encompass technical aspects such as ease of installation, multiple platform compatibility? How many users have difficulties running the software?
Does it also include user's satisfaction and feedback?
Graphicwise, Mechanics, User friendly, Hardware requirements (ease of access/usage)
Longevity?

Not a exhaustive list but you get the idea. However saying that, if it does include user feedback then the prospects of it winning the title may be very slim due to the obvious reasons (threads around here)

You're asking this on BSN which is still currently in rage about the ending. What do you think people will say on here?

On the otherhand, I think people outside of BSN will say that ME3 has a strong chance of getting GOTY. It's biggest rivals will be Bioshock and Assassins Creed (maybe Max Payne depending on how good it is).
