Sadly, no.

Most of the game was great but it fell apart in the last five to ten minutes. A game that is as story-driven as Mass Effect 3 needed to have a strong ending, especially considering it was the final game of a trilogy that has now spanned five years. So with that in mind I think Mass Effect 3 has to be rated as a bit of a mixed bag, and as such, it shouldn't get serious consideration for GOTY.

As far as I'm concerned : nope, regardless of the ending the rest of the content isn't consistently polished enough to deserve my GOTY.

It's a good game but it's far from stellar.

My thoughts exactly... Definitely one of my favorite franchises, but too many plot holes, and lacking in other key areas to be worthy of GOTY.

Yes. 5 minutes of meh doesn't ruin 2400 minutes of pure awsomeness

What part of a journey sticks in your mind the most.

The fantastic trip there or how you got mugged on the steps of the hotel.

A poor ending can negatively affect how people see everything that came before it. Conversely a good ending can improve people's impressions of what came before.

For me Mass Effect 3 is a good game but all the little flaws don't let it reach Game of the Year.

Oh yeah and NO.

It took me 22 hours to beat ME1 with almost everything on first run with no DLC's.
38 hours for ME2 with everything done on first run with no DLC's.
40 hours for ME3 with everything done on first run with no DLC's.

In other words, chart is very flawed.

Absolutely not. As much as I love Mass Effect, there are more deserving games out there.

Quantity =/= Quality

And to answer the OP, no it's not ''worthy''. But who cares really, since it'll will get one, like any other major game title released this year.

So many fetch quests... Aside from the set piece planets the game was quite mediocre, not as bad as the generic fluff of ME , but not far off.

I wish I could say it would be worth being GOTY, unfortunately in my eyes it is not.

And it is not about the ending, which btw I do not dislike too much.

It is simply the fact that the game is still very buggy. Several mission (e.g. the Hanar on the citadel) seem to be broken. My biggest concern however is that the face import issue is not solved, even after the last patch.  I am playing with two custom characters since ME1 and was very much looking forward to finish their story with the final act (as it was promised).

I had a complete playthrough with my male paragon Shepard and was okay with the face I got. Even though it seemed to be a bit off. Nevermind.

What I get with my female renegade Shepard is just sad, as I just cannot relate to the character anymore and have a hard time enjoying the experience. It is just a shame that something which worked perfectly between ME1 and ME2 got completely messed up in the final chapter.

Even without the scars the problem remains. Nevertheless... I want those scars to be imported. They are part of the character I established in more than 70 hours of previous gameplay.

As the endings spoilt only the last ten minutes of my ME-experience, it is nowhere comparable, that the buggy face import ruins the whole game for me. And since the bug is supposed to be fixed according to Bioware statements, there is little hope, that it will receive the attention it deserves.

For me definitivly . But at same time I think GOTY-awards are massivly overhyped.
The only parts that were not GOTY worthy for me were the start on earth and the ending(I actually liked a quite a bit but the execution was less than optimal). The overall game is in so many ways an experience unlike any other game I know of (That was the reason Portal 2 was my personal GOTY 2011). That is the strenght of the series there is little comparable titles. Also it is way too early too judge with so many promising titles out there.

The fetch quests are ludicrous, that I give you, but i.e comparing the N7 missions in ME2 with the few in ME3, the latter wins in that department.

Hmm. I'm not sure.

The problem is the disparate quality of storytelling in the game. Tuchanka and Rannoch: absolutely first class. Thessia and Earth: not impressed at all.

ME2 never reached the heights of Tuchanka and Rannoch, but it was more consistently satisfying.

The same applies to the characters. Some were very good, some others were criminally neglected, others had a mildly disappointing presence but were mutilated.

Nonetheless, ME3 is probably GOTY-worthy if the Extended Cut meets expectations.

Hell no and its quite sad too...
Botched CC and face import killed the spirit of the game right from the beginning for a large part of ME veterans (i.e. returning customers) - this flaw alone should eliminate any GotY considerations.
And then the ending, which is quite easily the most disappointing in any RPG game I remember (and i have played RPGs since the times of the C64).
Also auto-dialogue was a major let-down as were paragon/renegade options/decisions that were few and meaningless between.
To be honest I enjoyed playing Skyrim much much more and i would rather re-play DA2 than ME3...

Yes. If skyrim, with all it's bugs/issues can be a near unanimous goty, then this sure as hell can be. The game flat out didn't work after so many hours on the PS3 version. Why Bethesda gets a pass on everything, I'll never know.

Basically my impression from this thread is "not perfect, not game of the year". Bioware fans in general are never happy. I'm beginning to wonder if there is anything they actually like outside of Baldur's Gate and Dragon Age: Origins. This will get it's fair share of awards.

Not if Bioshock Infinite has anything to say about it. Potentially Assassin's Creed 3 as well.

^This...both Bioshock and AC3 should give them a run for their money even more so with the both of them being released more toward's the end of the year.

Even if the game didn't have the polarizing (to put it mildly) ending, it would still be forgotten. Most games released in the first few months of the year get pushed to the ground in the stampede of triple-AAA titles being released in the last quarter. Not to mention that there are still a ton of titles with just as much hype being released (Diablo 3, Halo 4, Assassin's Creed 3, new Max Payne, new Hitman, new Bioshock, etc).

It may win one or two awards, but all the controversy surrounding it has already put a dent in the game's reputation. I don't remember if ME2 got any GOTY awards, offhand.

I am sure that BioWarEA will spam most the sites that have GotY awards with paid adds and ... low and behold it will actually get GotY. Call me a cynical or a realist, but facts are facts.

Now...I think so. The ending doesn't screw up all the fun the rest of the game provides (I got over it, great replayability btw), and the multiplayer is just too much fun with friends.

Speak for yourself,  I love the damn thing

I love it but it's still disappointing. It could have been better.
Critics only give it a face value check so I think it is definitely a contender for GOTY, despite my grievances.

BioShock will, it's been in production for a while but if it's more like BioShock 2 then maybe not.
AC3 definitely not. AC2 was by far the best of AC and even that didn't get anywhere near GOTY... AC3 has only had a year.

I'd say no because:
- ME3 isn't quite as good as ME1 (great story) or ME2 (great action & adventure)
- you need a combination of critic and fan support for a game to consistently win most of the GOTY awards

Because Bethesda games are huge. Even the most irrational person tends to understand that Q&A for something of that size is never going to be easy.

Sure. It's good except the ending, and I don't see any other good games around.

I mean, Assassin's Creed? Diablo? BioShock? Really?

I'm probably just a jackass with extremely limited interests, though.

Edit:
Also, the fetch quests replace the mineral mining minigame, not actual sidequests, which makes them an improvement...
