Yes. If skyrim, with all it's bugs/issues can be a near unanimous goty, then this sure as hell can be. The game flat out didn't work after so many hours on the PS3 version. Why Bethesda gets a pass on everything, I'll never know.

Basically my impression from this thread is "not perfect, not game of the year". Bioware fans in general are never happy. I'm beginning to wonder if there is anything they actually like outside of Baldur's Gate and Dragon Age: Origins. This will get it's fair share of awards.

He's right, i dont think they've even managed to fix the PS3 save file crap that causes the game to become almost unplayable after prolonged gameplay but that's also incrdedibely sad that a bugged game can win goty, i stopped caring about such awards when skyrim won " best story "

These awards are meaningless

Yes. 5 minutes of meh doesn't ruin 2400 minutes of pure awsomeness

It did for some of us.  For me a story is defined by its ending.  Thats when everything comes together and all the journey is validated.  Or not, as in this case.  So no, I don't think its worthy of GotY.

Now whether it will win is a different story.  It's still a great game, that the critics seem to love.

However I think Bioshock Infinite is vying for that prize.

With so much controversy the critics may actually deny Bioware the award.

On the other hand they may give it to them just to thumb their noses at fans.

Tough call

If you look at it as a single game... It offers great story action and adventure. Offers multiple modes for styles of play. And a great multiplayer. In that sense yes it's goty worthy

As a trilogy. It's all of the above except for 10 minutes and closure. Still goty worthy. But probably runner up

I thought it would have a lock for my GOTY. I still like Mass Effect 3 a lot, but it didn't surpass or even match ME2 for me, and Borderlands 2 is looking like a better game.

It's worthy to be a candidate.
I don't know much what other games are coming this year though. After the last six or so months of sick game releases everything just seems kind of bland looking.
Perhaps Guild Wars 2, perhaps GTA 5 or perhaps Diablo 3. But no must haves like ME3, Skyward Sword, Skyrim, BF3, Forza 4 or Driver San Francisco.

No because of:

- Messy quest journal
- Messy import (missing flags/ME1 face import)
- MP affecting SP and missing war assets
- Reduced game content due to rushed development ie missing hubs/characters removed via twitter/former squadmate without cameos

I am not saying I didn't enjoyed it but honestly a game where I have to use save editor in order to access all contents and where I must follow internet guides in order to be able to complete sidequests because of a journal/map system that was nonsensical is not worty GOTY imho.

Even though all the problems this game has had, if there had never been a Mass Effect 1 or 2, and only Mass Effect 3, it actually is a very, very good game. Excellent in fact, but I don't think it will make game of the year due to the previous two games.

The ending, the face import catastrophe, the watered down RPG elements. It doesn't make it a bad game in it's own right when viewed on it's own.

I wonder how it would have been recieved if this was the first and only installment and the first two games storylines were fixed and relayed to the player as an prologue...

90% of it's problems wouldn't have existed...

Fix'd. With the way Capcom is doing things I am surprised it didn't get worst company. They are even worse with their dlc and franchise running than any other company out there. Also Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City was a joke and if it has any sway with the direction the franchise is going like one of head dudes said about Resident Evil than I fear for the franchise. They want to cut all ties with their survival horror and make it more about ACTION!! Where is Bioshock on this list or Borderlands 2?

Hell yes! It may just be because I kinda liked the ending, but evening a bad ending wouldn't spoil 35 hours of pure awesomeness.

No. But GOTY awards are usually a joke anyway so I wouldn't be suprised if it did win,

It's far too early to tell, as there are several games coming out later this year, and it depends on the quality of those. Bioshock infinite is one, as many others have said, and if it manages to keep a high level of quality throughout and have a decent ending then I could see it taking the award from Mass Effect 3.

The ending will hurt it's chances, that's for sure. Even if Bioware are claiming that it's artistic and reviewers are being lenient about it a game with a fantastic ending will still stand out.

Not GOTY material. Mass Effect 3 doesn't have any replayability, which for me diminishes the fact that it should deserve any awards. Can't really compare Skyrim to ME3 anyways, Skyrim is open-world, so even if the main quest line sucked, just the fact that theres so much other stuff to do in the game other than the MQ makes it worthwhile. ME3 on the otherhand...nothing mattered.

Hopefully the critics won't have the mentality of a 5-year old who didn't get what they specifically wanted, and it'll be at least
nominated.

whiny ending brats

No. The massive number of plotholes, the poor tratment of the sidelined characters, the final 5 mins of the game, all the lies the devs said before the release, etc.

imo, ME3 is the most dissappointing game of the year.
