Not in my opinion, was way too watered down.

I agree with this. It had the shapings to be GOTY easily but they dropped the ball immensly even after they delayed the game.

I don't even think it should be nominated.

Year isn't over yet, though about like 50 GotYs go out since it's from different people, places, and companies, I think.

Could be wrong about GotY thing, never really payed to much attention to it other than buying things cheap.

For the first 98% of the game I'd have said "YES!"... BUT the ending destroys the whole series imho...

so...

HELL NO!

Are you people serious? There is no other game out there that can compere itself to the story of Mass Effect, not a single one. Yes the ending was a disappointment, yes it has some minor issues, BUT the story is so good that it makes us care, no other game out there manages to do that. Bioshock, Max Payne, Assassin's Creed, who honestly gives a **** about the story in those games? You people should be ashamed to call yourself ME fans.

Maybe you don't play enough games.

No. There's so much that was done well in this game, but the fact that it opens with an error message and ends the way it does sours the experience for most fans. I didn't mind the ending but the opening face error stalled me for about two weeks. During that time, I was on the receiving end of vapid public relations bs that was insulting. It became clear that EA must have forbidden all reviewers from discussing the bug with the implicit threat of limited future access because it was absent from reviews. That makes it a blemish on the entire gaming + adolescent gaming journalism industry.

It's a shame because there's so much done well in ME3 that I hate having it represent the worst of mega-corporate corruption.

How does the voting for GOTY work? Everything depends on who gets to vote.

ME3 will probably be used as a tool to push the agenda of "artistic integrity" down peoples throats and a big F U to the people who wanted the ending changed, so I I have no doubt it will be on short list of game of the year.

Considering the enjoyment I got out of 3 playthrus (including a NG+), Yes, I think it has a shot at being GotY.

Yeah it definitely deserves it. Even though the last 5 min suck, the rest of the game is a masterpiece.

It is the best game as of now. Will it hold that title once the end of year come, that is another question in itself.

For me, yes and no. Yes for it being amazing per say for majority besides the ending. And no for the issues it has. Atrocious journal that is unthinkable to happen since the previous two Mass Effect journal updated, auto-dialogue here and there and the ending. Not to mention guns sound more powerful in the previous two than ME3 to me depending on the gun. But to me Bioware needs to fix the ending but also make a fix to the journal, I do not want to rely on the strategy guide just to know where to go next for the side quest. Didn't have to do that for majority of quests in previous two so its quite stupid that its almost required for every side quest currently in ME3.

ME2 was worthy of beeing nominated as Goty. ME3 is definately not. The only thing it does better compared to ME2, is that shepard is a little bit more agile in combat. Everything else is worse in comparison (quality of the dialog, story, enemies, enjoyment, immersion, content, auto-dialog, gameplay and so on and so forth). Added to that the ending, which destroys replayability.

In a year where both Diablo 3 and Assassin's Creed 3 are being released? No. It won't be GotY. Considering how much of it's own fan base it lost to the ending, regardless of critical acclaim it won't survive the year.

I agree. Assassins Creed 3 will be fun, Bioshock Infinite will be interesting, but I will not care for the story, the characters and the universe like I cared for ME3.

Sure,
Mass Effect is good storywise, but far from the best I've played...
(that honour goes to Half-Life 2)

What the.... I mean, Half-Life 2? Story? It is one of my favourite games of all times, I just played it again two months ago but I couldn't care less about the story. Writing and voice acting (which is crucial for good narrative) is only mediocore in HL2, escpecially when compared to Valve's latest game Portal 2. Sorry for OT.

No. Because the gameplay besides the story elements is nothing more than straight tubes with waves of enemies.

GOTY is decided by magazines, review sites etc who each might have their own award. it's not handed out by any one specific organization like for example the Oscars is for movies.

yes because the story itself is what seperates this game from titles like call of duty

-Yep... and in all the possible ways it shouldnt, to the point where CoD actually looks quite palatable because it doesnt pretend to be something its not.

^ This. Although you gotta give 'em credit for the genophage storyline, which really shines...

No. The Gameplay is severely overrated. Even without the ending fiasco, I'll be very reluctant to hand it the GOTY. Plus, it's too early to tell. I'm still rooting for my sleeper pick Max Payne 3.

You just can't argue with the Artistic Integrity ™ of that gif.
