"Being from a paramilitary background I found it disrespectful that Shepard doesn't salute back."

Except that you do have the option to salute Michaelovich, if you want to! I'm sure your Shepad saluted, right?

So why do you state Shepard doesn't?

Or did I miss something?

BTW, never knew that senior officers had to salute junior ranks, thanks for that! I appreciate new knowledge.

I liked the whole scene. The Normandy was the right place to give the speech, it has all the coms and is tied in to the data feed of every fleet so right off the bat it's the perfect place to give one. We all know that Shepard is military and no matter how anyone played it he\\she still has full respect for the chain of command.

Now for the nitty gritty. Hacket is at the front lines, he commanded all the fleets at Acturus when the Reapers came, none of us can deny that. After Shepard makes the treaties Hackett gets the people and orginizes them, he's also running security for the project so it's not fair to say that he doesn't do anything. The scars on his face show that he's not one to stay behind where it's safe durring a fight. He is the kind of commander that any version of Shepard would respect, a from the front leader.

The guards to me make perfect sense, when he comes abord you have already kicked off the offensive to take back Earth and we all know how the Reapers and Cerberus like sleeper agents. The best way to cause confusion in the ranks would be to off him, another good reason he's aboard the Normandy, she is a fleet in of herself.

If you look at him in just one part of the game he doesn't seem to do much but when you peice his history together and look at the whole picture you see much more about him.

Pretty much and also given the things he and Anderson did for Shepard, during his/her time in the Alliance and even Cerberus Shepard would have unquestionable respect for him

Hackett and Anderson have extensive bad ass backgrounds every bit as impressive as Shepard's.

My Shepard loves the spotlight and wouldn't pass up an opportunity to give a speech, nor would he salute anyone (superior or not) in the alliance that he just rejoined to defeat the reapers and for no other reason...

I'm not saying you should be able to put a bullet in Hackets head, but that the option to be disrespectful isn't even there was a bit disappointing. Cause I mean, what was anyone in the alliance gonna do if I was a jerk/bastard, interrupted their speeches and refused salute? Strip me of my rank (again) and bring me where? To what brig? They need Shepard, they made that much clear, so they would probably tolerate him being a complete and total ass.

I'm just disappointed I wasn't given the option to, and was basically railroaded into being an alliance posterboy soldier (renegade or paragon). I still enjoyed most of the game though, but parts like these would have brought to life a new way of replaying it with a different personality instead of always being soldierboy/girl.

Bioware have went waaaaaay down in my estimations as catering for 10,001 variables, through the entire series, was the least they could have offered the fans. I'm just glad they did a splendid job on the ending. Otherwise, i wouldn't have purchased another BW product.

i don't understand why ppl keep saying "my Shepard"

srry its not "your Shepard", its BW's . . . . even if they said otherwise, their actions (refusal to fix ending, no option to be true rengade, etc, etc) clearly state that its "THEIR SHEPARD"

+1

I wonder if so many of the posters saying "Shepard is Proud to join the Alliance, Sir yes Sir!"

have played Earthborn, or realise what being Earthborn actually means?

It (can) mean a Shepard who, like mine, joined the Alliance because it was their only way out of the cycle of poverty and violence- and a chance to use biotic powers.

Not that dissimilar to a certain portion of the US Armed Forces.

Of course, a Spacer War Hero type is more likely to be a I-Love-The-Humans Alliance Elisted soldier.
Also a Colonist Ruthless would owe a debt of honour to the Alliance.

But an Earthborn? Not so much. Not necessarily.

Hackett was going to let you do the speech, but then realized you couldn't hack it.

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read, and your responses show me why it would ever be bad for somebody like you to ever have "Shepard like" power. Thank god videogames let you kids live out your fantasies, because jesus christ. The speech was iffy, sure. But he has every right to be on your ship saying it.

How come everyone keeps saying that Hackett can do what he wants because he outranks Shepard?

Shepard is a Spectre in command of the Normandy. He answers only to the Council. If he wanted to, he could pee on Hackett's shoes, slap him in the face and push him out the airlock, and no one could say word one.
Not saying that's the best option, given the circumstances ......:?

But Rank doesn't really enter into it. Hackett's standing on the ship of a Council Spectre, his orders don't really count for squat. That being said, Shep obviously has a great deal of respect for the Alliance command structure, and I'm assuming that's why he let Hackett take the moment of glory.

The speech should probably have been Shepard's to give, but Hackett has more than earned the right as well, and well, Rank Hath Its Privileges.

No, he hasn't.

He never got his hands dirty.
Never was in danger.
Never helped Shepard.

In fact, evidence points towards Hackett being the TRUE LEADER OF CERBERUS.

Go here.
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/347/index/11349228

Being the one who reinstated you, (No, Anderson wasn't the one who reinstated you, he just tossed back your dog tags. Check your email. Hackett gave the order to have you reinstated) he is your superior.

Never in danger? Horsecrap. He sacrificed the 2nd fleet (I think it was second) to provide cover for the 3rd and 5th, in his exact words "I presided over the most humiliating defeat of human history." and "Shepard, to tell you the truth, every action I'm doing is a time delay for you to bring the galaxy together and for the crucible." (okay, might've paraphrased that one). So dont go around yelling he never helped Shepard or he was never in danger, he can't get dirty, why? he is an admiral and the leader of the combined fleet, if everyone sees that he is not going by the book, everyone else would follow, thus bringing chaos and actually giving meaning for the reapers.

My god, you're pretty butthurt, aren't you?

So butthurt you post on a thread just to say you hate it.

US Citizen, right?

Now, I don't have Shepard powers.

(Although my actual level of power IRL is quite interesting...)

Also intriguing you refer to videogames players as "kids". I guess you're a well-adjusted adult who doesn't actually play video games but feels the need to post on video games forums.

Of course, that just makes you a creepy, creepy stalker.

I'm referring to his never leaving his ship. If someone out there has evidence of his leaving the ship for ground combat, I will rescind that statement.

But I still say he dropped Shepard in more trouble than he took her out of.

He helped Shepard only in as much as it helped Shepard defeat the Reapers.

But Shepard was in custody for 6 months because of the mission Hackett sent her on.

Helped Shepard's missions, yes.

Helped Shepard, no.

I mean, he says "If it were up to me, I'd give you a medal."

Well . . . what's stopping him?

If he is, as some say, the Head Honcho, why no medal or even promotion for Shepard?

OP, I agree. After becoming a Spectre and then going rogue, there's no way my Shepard would have licked the Alliance's boots.

Don't go all "it's not your character !!1!". I know that. It was kind of hard to miss during ME3. But in ME1, I clearly recall being a Spectre BEFORE being a human. Answering to the Council before answering to the Alliance. I wouldn't have even accepted the trial. I did my job as a Spectre, protecting the galaxy. I understand not all people chose to be reinstated, but it felt very out of character to me.

Now, I don't hate Hackett. I appreciate his work. But Shepard answering to the Alliance, just no.
