I'd love to not have to carry swap discs all the time. Any way to do it? Or am I just stuck because I didn't buy with Steam/Direct2Drive?
Can I play without the disc in the drive?

Dunno about this one because I haven't tried it, but some games after you register them with Steam no longer require the disc when you run thr game from Steam.

I really don't understand why companies still bother with this kind of copy "protection". The ONLY people inconvenienced by it are your legal customers...
Good thing at least some companies are starting to get the message through their thick skulls (eg. Fallout 3 is playable without needing to have the disc in the drive)

If you own the game (have the manual with the cd-key) you can go to the EA site and download the game digitally for free. You just have to input your cd-key in a box at the EA site,

The last thread about his was locked by the Mod's.
Bioware isn't going to support you circumventing their copy protection methods, and I expect this thread will get locked as well.
I'd rather have a physical disc check than SecureROM or some other BS technique.

And yes, if you don't want to have the disc in the drive to play the game, digitally download (legally) is the way to go

if you own the game legit, just go to www.gamecopyworld.com and replace your exe with the no DVD exe. I'm pretty sure its legal as long as you've bought the game.

Unless you have D2D or Steam (or some other digital download), you MUST have the DVD (or CD) in the drive to fire up the game
I honestly don't see why people whine about this. I could see it as being annoying if you play the game on 2, 3, or 4 systems. I know people will buy one copy for everyone in the house (they can't just all use the "online features). I know game companies want 1 copy per computer and don't care abouse households (which is disagree with). That's about the only time it can be a pain... but you just start the game.. eject the CD and hand it to someone else in the house who is about to play. Usually the biggest complainers about having to have the CD/DVD in are people who want to buy 1 copy and share it with their friends. If that's case, that falls under my catagory of "too bad"
Just deal with the CD/DVD.. it's really not a big issue.. and if it is.. i'm SURE there's already a no CD/DVD patch out for the retail version of the game.

Correct. Often if you buy a retail game that is supported in steam and register it in steam, steam will then DL a digital copy of the game that you will no longer need the CD/DVD for
It's been a while since I have done that.... so maybe steam will just update the files in your retail install folders.. but as of a year ago it would not. It would DL the "steam" version and install it
