But if they don't come back playable, they're better off not coming back at all.

I'd love to see Hawke back, with his "dominant" personality from DA2 intact. I want to see the end of his story!

I don't understand, aren't you attached to your main PCs? To me it just feels natural to want to see your created pc further in adventures. I don't understand why you're all opposed to that idea.

They said at PAX (or before) that they don't plan on going in that direction. Certainly not with either character as the protagonist. But they also said, if the characters come back, they won't be playable at all. So, while I'd still like to see short stories to wrap up Hawke/the Warden within DA3 (where they're not the protagonist of the game, but for a short time they become the main character), that's probably not going to happen.
But if they don't come back playable, they're better off not coming back at all.
Seeing them manifested as you had created them originally in their own games in a DA3 encounter would be fantastic!

OOH. I'd considering pre-ordering (something I promised myself never to do again after DA2) a game that let me behead Hawke! That would be SO satisfying!

It's time to move on and start fresh. Also most RPG games like start you off where you are a wimp (level 1) and you work your way up unless it is an expansion. It is also more satisfying that way. Since Hawke is the champion and The Grey Warden is knight commander it would be ridiculous to start them out at a low level again.

To actually implement this Bioware would have to either handcraft a variety of scenarios that are appropriate for each Warden and Hawke's various endings (or simply just rail road everybody), they'd also have to have 2 seperate types of dialogue system to accomodate the silent warden and the voiced Hawke or worse pay 6 voice actors to voice the various Wardens etc etc.

I would still go for a 2 or 3 Act play, with 3 playable characters (Hero of Ferelden or Orlesian Warden,Hawke,New Hero),different one for each act, different world event for each, and you could control them in turns for the final, epic Act.I am aware of the resources limitations, but let us just play with the idea at least.
I am also aware that David Gaider does not want the previous PCs to be playable.

Correct. My warden's story was awesome, and I never want to see him again because it would ruin his story. My Hawke probably died of an STD and was such a punk she shouldn't be allowed to live.

Such wit and maturity from the BSN, I see.

According to a BSN poll, half of the ppl want to play their Warden/Hawke, the other half wishes not to. I myself was only toying with the idea-what if we could use 3 protagonists. It is not as far-fetched as it first seems, but it only an idea, nothing more.I would find any RPG that allows you to use multiple protagonists to enact different parts of the story a refreshing detour, but that would require immense resources, which I am well aware of.The OP merely voiced his wish to import one of his old PCs as a playable character.Plausible or not,let him have his say.

Bioware, please allow us to import our Grey Warden or Hawke into Dragon Age 3 as main playable protagonists. We invetsed lot of time and affection for our characters and feel that it would be a waste of such invested appreciation if their use was restricted to DAO and DA2.

I know I would like to be my Grey Warden again. I was fine with how Origins ended and felt my Warden could of been done but then I got awakening. I believe that caused my story to not be done with my Warden. Finally, we got the Witch Hunt DLC. I finished it and was like WTF? How am I suppose to be happy about my Warden story being over when you give me that ending!
I love Dragon Age 2, but Hawke is someone I can move on from. I am just not as invested in him as I was my Warden. I would of liked to get more closure, but I can handle moving on from him much better then my Warden.
