I've seen this happen numerous times and am curious why anyone would just give up when they are the last player alive on the wave? What I mean is all players in the match except one are dead for that wave. The last player instead of doing the epic thing (which I will explain later on in this post) just quits or gives up so they die without even trying to advance to the next wave. I'm not talking about after beating wave 10 everyone dies because they already got their credits junk, I mean like on wave 7-9 and stuff.

Humor me for a moment ... this is an RPG game after all and I think we all played it because we enjoyed the story / characters / roleplaying elements it involved us with. I feel Multiplayer in more ways than one, especially being the last player alive, is an epic ending of it's own if you want it to be for your beloved Mp characters. They are fighting their own fight while Commander Shepard is elsewhere having his/her battle.

I usually tend to be the last player alive in a lot of matches I play (especially silver matches for some reason) and I never give up. Instead I will get through the wave so everyone can continue. If I'm my character is going to have an end I will not go down without a fight. It may be a losing battle but nonetheless the enemy will have to fight hard to take me down. The few times that I was killed along with my 2 other teammates the remaining guy instead of being epic and getting through the wave just quits or lets the enemy kill them. It's like they think it's over and they stand no chance which is ridiculous. For me I accept the challenge of being the last player alive as an epic challenge that mimics the single player experience of overcoming overwhelming odds and either surviving against the forces of the reapers or dying in an epic way.

I accept the psychotic challenge in ME3 when all my teammates have died that wave and I will do everything in my power to get us through the next wave even if I am the last Quarian standing so we continue onward to the next wave. Maybe other players don't like to put stress on their skills but I love it. It only makes you better, more focused, and more deadly of an enemy to any real player or AI you face in the future. Everyone in my live stream gets excited when I am the last player alive in a ME3 MP match and loves to see me to get to the next wave. Nothing more exciting than overcoming the impossible and winning while people watch you do it like a boss. When I become the last player alive I like to play the soundtrack from Mass Effect trilogy. It just makes it more awesome. Tracks like 'suicide mission' from Mass Effect 2 is a great track to play in this situation. It really puts you in the mood and brings a little RPG element of it's own into the multiplayer. Maybe some people find that lame but if you are looking for a way to make things more exciting I suggest trying it =)

My fellow awesome and friendly Mass Effect players, isn't this what Mass Effect has always been about anyways? Overcoming the impossible and defeating the reapers? Will you back down from the fight when you are the last one in a wave left and give up or be like commander Shepard and give them hell. Drive them back to the traverse where they belong and take your homeworld back!

Not all of us will survive but we will have such an end they will never forget us ...

Soloing a waves is fun, but I refuse to waste too many medigels and rockets, especially if its an early wave like 5 or 6. If I go down, so be it, because the team is likely to wipe later on anyway.

I might not use a medigel if it's totally hopeless (like I've got two banshees and a Brute sitting on my dying face) but I'll usually try.

Last night we were on Silver, Dagger, Cerberus and on wave ten it was disabling devices. The others managed to get three of them but then all died. There was no way I could rez them. We had three minutes left on the last device and I somehow managed to clear enough to get there (it was one of the devices in the open space in the middle, but tucked in the corner - and yes there were Nemesis' in the upper sniping section!)

After disabling it I believe I had six nemesis', three engineers and an Atlas left, and managed to clear.

I was on one of the OP classes (Asari Adept) but still, moments like that are really fun, and if I'd failed it would hardly have cost me anthing.

That's not even a wall of text, you tool.

I hate giving up on anything. A week or so ago I had to solo a silver upload wave vs geth as a melee krogan. Finished with at 0:01, lol. I don't know why anyone would just give up on 7-9... It'd be faster and more beneficial to just stay in the game for ten more minutes and double your output of credits and XP.

I tend to solo higher waves on silver a lot... I've done it as a Drell Adept against Cerberus, Human Engineer against Geth and Reapers, Geth Engineer against Geth, Human Soldier against all of 'em and once as Human Vanguard against Cerberus.

NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER!

I just read up to your initial question. I will probably revisit this later today when I'm not in husk mode, but right now my eyes are way to worn out to be reading that much on a bright screen. I'm going to answer the question though since I did open your thread and read that initial question.

There is one reason, and one reason only, that I give up on a wave, and that is a poor team. If the team, myself included, can't get their act together, then I'm not going to waste resources, including my time and everyone else's, in prolonging the suffering. This could be from people being AFK, poor teamwork in general, poor team roster, or people quitting due to rage. However, short of using equipment, I will just go crazy in that moment of giving up and take down as many as I can with me before I go down.

Now, if I do have time on my hands, and it's a decent team that suffered a bad moment or two, then I will play for keeps. Heck, one time this Krogan Soldier and I were alone and made it to wave 10, though the guy kept dying. I do like challenges, but only if I have the time and resources to spend on them, and only if it pays in the end with a good team. Otherwise, I'm moving on.

I never give up. I'll use every rocket and gel I don't care.

I used 2 rockets and 2 medigel to clear wave 10 on silver earlier, getting that target eliminated with my cobra with 0 seconds left on the timer was epic. And winning the round by myself felt cool. I didn't let my team down.

with a Geth infiltrator vs Cerberus or Geth on gold...i do not need a Cobra missile on wave 10....but it is tempting to use one to get 100k xp

What I really hate is when people get mad at the last guy left for getting killed. Seriously, you died before him, do you really have the right to complain about it?

And yes, I'm like you, I've head-canoned backstories for all my MP characters and given them serious names. Call it nerdy, but it makes it awesome.

I normally agree. But when the odds are overwhelming (GOLD) I will give up in order to not waste 15 minutes of someone else's time. Don't forget they can't collect their credits/XP unless they make it to the post-match screen.

One time, I was kicked from a lobby after a silver match in which I solo'd Wave 10, also having to complete the objective because everyone else died before it was finished, while using a human sentinel with a lower level than any other character in the match. There were two Atlases, two Phantoms, and some number of other Cerberus enemies left when it came down to me, and a thousand biotic explosions later, I did it.

Why was I kicked?

I took too long to save their asses. They wanted me to quit.

Yep, it's all about spirits. Some have, some don't. To OP - may be you was unlucky, because most of the time i see someone being last man standing, they fight to the end. So may be from now on you won't see as many weaklings as you did till now.

Well usually I try hard to win if Im last man standing and Ive seen others do the same.
Of course sometimes its a doomed effort but on occasion it works out well.

Yesterday I managed to get wave 10 credits in Hydra silver as the last man standing - level 10 Asari Vanguard. I think all the others went down between activating devices 2 and 3, so there I was, with, time running out, a Banshee and a few Cannibals around the last objective... I rocket the Banshee, stasis one Cannibal, start to activate the device... but no, a damn Cannibal comes straight at me... interrupt, give it a few Saber shots to get rid of it... start activating... halfway there... oh crap, another cannibal incoming, move it you stupid bar, move it - and with less than half a section of health remaining, I activate the device... and promptly die.

Generally, if I think there's hope I do pick myself up and keep trying, even if alone. But more often than not this just leads to wasted medi-gels unfortunately :? And I keep running low on 'em as it is.

Not checking your clock is what leads to 3 people dying and one alive.
Also not pairing off leads to deaths.

I see both frequently and have to restrain myself from screaming expletives at these people, you always pair off with someone synergistic and you always, ALWAYS, check your six. Hell in this game you have to check your twelve, three, six and nine.

Please, I seen people giving up during the later waves when I or someone else was last man standing. Either they don't have faith that the surviving member can't complete the wave, or they are just plain lazy to wait.

p.s. I'm looking at you jerks for leaving me, a human sentinel behind for wave 9,10 and 11 at Firebae Giant.

Probably a matter of pressure as everyone is watching me. eek. Even an early wave, I will fight with everything, however slow and methodical/suicidal it is. I'll use all consumables, even if it is hopeless.
Just want to set a nice example, not be embarrassed, and maybe show that I can at least try to be a badass. I hate the pressure. Is it dumb, ya. Probably.
We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!!! FOR THESSIA!!!

I was the last man standing on a silver match yesterday, not sure which wave but it was late in the game, Some chap was telling me how good I was over the mic,(still can't get my mic to work in ME3) I keep going till the fat lady sings, but sometimes if it's only wave 5 or something I throw the towel in and save my medi gel's for another day.
