Hi.

I want to launch a cutscene when my module loads. What is probably best is to load the cutscene from my starting area properties.

I have seen the "launch cutscene" example at the wiki, but I don't know where to put it or if I am to put it i a area_core script or something...

I think a lot of other toolset newbies also would like to know about this...

Follow the Wiki's example to create the script, then you have to set your areas script property to use that script. Look at the demo module area called Wilderness.

You'll want to use the EVENT_TYPE_AREALOAD_SPECIAL event.

Got this working, the event was EVENT_TYPE_AREALOAD_SPECIAL.

Included that in my area script and it loaded the cutscene. When it ended dumped my guys on the start waypoint as per usual. You'll probably want to check a plot flag to make sure it doesn't trigger every time.

Hi all,

I succesfully got my cutscene to load at area start, except that my cutscene plays in a different area than the one that is currently loading. My cutscene area is built specifically for the cutscene, it will never have the player character there, so i dont have any other way to launch it. My problem is that although in the cutscene's properties i have the "area needed" flag checked, my cutscene still plays in the to-be-loaded area instead of its own area. Looks like the cutscene's area is not getting loaded even though the flag to load it first is checked in the toolset. Anyone know whats up with that?

You will need to first transition to the area containing the cutscene, then play the cutscene on the EVENT_TYPE_AREALOAD_SPECIAL event.

It was originally planned for cutscenes to be able to preload another area, but this proved to be too costly in terms of memory and performance so the feature was cut. There may be some legacy documentation that doesn't reflect that.
