I liked him, though he didn't get too much mission time once Ash was back. Unfortunately his entrance into the series is so late that I find that even though I like him, I tend to go more with my old squad than him.
I did find one mission hilarious though. If you go to rescue Admiral Korris, when you get to the first AA Tower and ask James to do it, he says tech isn't really his thing and then proceeds to kick the panel to get the wires out. The look on Shep's face was hysterical.
I'm not too sure about him getting Ash drunk though, that's supposed to be Shep's job lol.
Did anyone else like James Vega?

I think most of Vega's appeal was due to Freddie Prinze Jr's convincing every day Joe approach to the character.

I didn't like him, it just felt that Bioware only added him in for new players who had never played ME1 and ME2. When he came out with stupid lines like when he asks Kaidan or Ashley if they know Shepard at the beginning. And don't get me started with the Loco bull****, first playthrough I let him call me that I was paragon but second playthrough with my femshep and he started calling her Lola I was like Oh hell no and told him off

I would have liked him a lot more if he weren't a sexually harassing douchebag my Shep was forced to flirt with against my will.
He's better as a dudeShep. "Loco" is a pretty cool nickname and appropriate for Shep. "Lola" just feels insulting.

Dude is awesome. I loved that he was essentially a human Krogan. I basically took him with me every time.

I absolutely love him, which is really surprising for me: took one look at the guy and my first impression was that he'd be nothing more than a meat popsicle. However, I was wrong. He's got some of the best banter in the whole game and just has a contagious personality.
Wish I could've romanced him! Damn him and his adorable flirting.

I didn't like him one bit. Hate the nicknames, seriously locco and lola annoyed the crap out of me. I also hate clichéd dumb characters like him and I thought he was too condescending. While he did show some respect for Shepard as a soldier, there were times where it seemed he didn't find him/her tough enough for the job. I don't know, he and Cortez just didn't grow on me.

I have to admit, the "Loco" thing was a bit cheeseball but I was amused when his penchant for nicknames was turned sideways when he failed at giving Tali one.

i understood the thinking behind his creation but ultimately he just takes away from better characters, and i cant help but see him as the represenation of the ignorant, new players the game was dumbed down and ridden w continuity problems for

I just posted elsewhere about this.
Having seen some previews of him in promos, I'd already written off Vega before playing as the new-ME-player-friendly character.
However, I was proven wrong and he wasn't a bad character in the end. Not the type to take on missions for my style, but not bad as a new NPC. He had some witty lines. I'd rather he hadn't have called me 'Lola', but as paragon I had to let him get away with it. He was just a career soldier, uncomplicated, but not too grunt like.

He's actually pretty cool. I found him less interesting than say Liara or Garrus, but that's because we have known them for three games and because they are more exotic. He's an average person like maybe Ashley is, so that takes away from his complexity. He's a nice guy and good as a squadmate especially against banshees and brutes.
His banter is very entertaining, but I hated being called "Lola".

I like him. Good performance by his voice actor, good design, useful in combat. He has a sort of roguish charm and charisma, and I like the fact that they made him a fairly straightfoward character. By and large, he comes across as a guy who likes to goof around and have fun, and that's pretty much exactly what he is. There are no "dark, hidden layers" to him or what have you. He is who he is.
He tends to get more play during the first half of my games than in the second, as I tend to substitute him for Ashley after she joins the squad. I should probably be a little more mindful of that in the future.

I thought he was decent, I didn't use him as much as the other squadmates, but he did seem relatively down to Earth. (npi)

He was meh if not a bit irritating at times. I would have rather had Grunt back.

Okay character. Interesting to begin with but got stale toward the middle/end of the story, as seems to be the case with most human characters in this game (I don't think the writers are good with humans).

I was really surprised at how much I liked James. I really thought I would hate him but I ending up really liking him, especially his interactions with the crew.

James Vega is an alright character. I actually kinda liked him.
But he has no place being introduced as a major character at the end of the trilogy when he has no relevance to plot or lore (unlike Javik), and him constantly treating everybody like they have amnesia or being so ignorant that he needs history lessons on something as basic as the genophage is grating.
His presence is also a constant reminder (along with EDI's) that his spot on the squad could have gone to any of the ME2 crew.

I really liked him and his emotional arc throughout the game. Also, the casual flirting with femshep was brilliantly done.

I liked James, although admittedly I probably headcanoned a little. He’s not just a dumb jarhead, though…I actually ended up using him in “Unity” quite a bit (and still do). He works really well with Jack.

I enjoyed him. He kind of filled the role of Mordin in ME3, with a little comic relief every now and then. All in all a very good addition to the ME universe.
