This is something I came across quite by accident but it is incredibly useful and I haven't seen it mentioned so I figured I'd point it out. When you summon your Pet a "1 new tactics slot" message will pop up and when you click on it it will open a tactics page for your pet. (Which can only be accessed by using the popup) What is interesting is that your pet will have abilities that don't show up on the hotbar by default (and since they have a blank talent page you can't add them) For example, my Blight Wolf has Howl and Shred on the hotbar but in the tactics it allows me to assign Dread Howl, Overwhelm, Growl and Charge in addition to those two.

The one thing I wish it would do is save itself....you have to re-do it everytime you summon a pet, everytime you zone. It gets old fast.

Yeah it's incredibly annoying.

Hmmm I wonder. I don't think I can access it since I am playing the xbox version?

yep discovered this myself recently, sucks that the tactics presets don't save. However using this I found the wolf is the most powerful of the pets as it has about 5 abilities available vs the bear and spider's 2.
Despite the tediousness of resetting the tactics constantly it's hard to argue against it when you can essentially have Dog along without taking up a party slot. (btw Enemy using magic attack > Use ability; Overwhelm = Win)

There is a mod out there for those playing on PC that makes pets persist through the load screens. Makes things far less annoying. I hit a bug that left me with two bears for a few minutes, but other than that it was lovely.
