Scientists say .. blahblah.. individual atoms form the network nodes and information is shuttled back and forth by photons.

Exactly how a fiber-optic cable is working, since 197x. So they use atoms as "nodes", who cares, information is still transmitted at light speed. Even plain radio is just as fast. nowhere the direction of a "QEC device". If they make a device like that you can pretty much have to rewrite every known law in physics.
