I've decided it's getting annoying having my party run out of stamina all the time because of their tactics, so I changed things around. Right now Leliana is set to only use two of her special attacks: Dirty Fighting if in melee and Arrow of Slaying against enemy mages. The trouble is she's still running out of stamina, and upon watching her it's because she's shooting Arrow of Slaying at any run-of-the-mill grunt. When I change the tactic that says "Enemy class: Nearest mage -> Arrow of Slaying", she quits. Is this tactic bugged? Or am I doing it wrong?
Leliana sees mages everywhere.

If there's no mage available as a target, it will function as Enemy: Nearest Visible.

I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, but it's not specific to Leliana or the AoS ability. I had my dog set to use Overwhelm on nearest enemy mage and he'd just do it on whatever was around as well. He seemed to be particularly keen on Overwhelming enemies with 5% health left.
I suspect what happens is the game checks for nearby mages upon the beginning of combat, and if none are around, it just triggers the ability on whatever the character has on target. Since enemy mages are usually all the way in the back and combat starts as soon as the first enemy is within sight, the "radar" doesn't pick them up right away and thinks there aren't any. Then the ability triggers on something else and cannot cancel itself even though an actual mage comes into view once the party starts the actual fighting.
Whatever the case, it makes the tactic fairly useless.

What was the tactic setting you were using before or is she using arrow of slaying on grunts under that tactics setting?
When I assign mage-kill tactics I found (for me at least) it can be better to use the "Enemy using attack type -> Magic attack" route as I was finding the party members would sometimes run ahead and aggro additional mobs if there was a mage in a rear group we had yet to aggro. Using the "magic attack" route ensures they only engage mages who are already aggroed.

Way to completely cripple a potentially useful tactic, BioWare. I guess I'll go back to manually targeting mages for destruction.

Good, this might fix the problem. I'll try it out.
