Fans say that they want DA III in late 2013/2014,WHY? thats 3 years from DA2 and we only got 2 DA2 DLC's.Dragon age 2 took onky 1.5 years and in that time we got 10 DAO DLC,1 expansion, tons of additional stuff.ME3 took 2  years to develop, between that time we got ton of ME2 DLC's.We have only 2 DLC for DA2,we can't play anything new for DA,and now most of the fans are saying to Bioware to made  DA3 2013/2014,i don't see how that makes sense. That would be the longest time for Bioware to create a sequel to a game ever, that would be ok if they gave DLC and Expansion during the wait  for the sequel, but they don't.Sure if they were creating DA2 content they would need more time, but FFS they just officialy cancelled all DA2 prodcus, and now fans want to wait 2 more years to get DA content WTF?.Between DAO and DA 2 it took 1 year,4 month, and in that time we got sooooo much DLC for DAO.I just don't get the DA fans, how can you think this way,its just stupid,i think late 2012/2013 is just enough time to create a great and not rushed game becouse there is no DA2 DLC that are in development, and 2 years is just the amount of time in witch ME3 was created(it is just enough, the game is very polished)and ME2 had ton of DLC which were released while ME3 was in development,i mean come on fans,3 years is just too much, isn't it?!?!????

So they get all the time they need to make an awesome, finished game that isn't rushed out in just over a year worth of development time.

You could have the best chef in the world, but if you rush his cooking time, you'll get a half-cooked meal.

That's what DA2 was.

I have to ask though; is it already in development? Or maybe pre-development, or whatever that stage of planning is called?

The reason I ask is because by that time, late 2013.2014, the next gen consoles will probably be out. So do developers already have access to next gen console tools? I think it also depends on if EA wants to wait until the next gen consoles are out, or try and release the game this gen.

why are you questioning it? DAO took 6 years and that wasnt perfect. DA2 took less than 2 and look how that turned out..Not terrible, but far from perfect... If the game takes 3-4 years, let it. When its ready, then bring it. Thats all there is to it. The world wont end if it comes out later, but your faith will if the game sucks and they could have made it perfect, if they waited.

It's always better to come late than too early. Only really get one good shot on release and have to make it count, otherwise bad things can happen.

Though I don't really expect it to come out far down the line AAA development doesn't normally give leeway to do such a thing too expensive to have extended dev times.

Pre-production, yes. They should have access to next gen dev kits (even Obsidian has them), but I'm pretty certain EA doesn't want to go a single fiscal year without a full release from Edmonton so DA3 will very likely be current gen and released before March 31 of next year.

Which is ironic, considering the only thing 'AAA' brings into play is money. Though it is, of course, spent more on making the game pretty and therefore 'marketable' and not on gameplay.

We're coming up on the end of the console generation. It makes sense to sync the release with the launch of the new hardware and that means holding off on development.

They sound like they're really early in building the game. It doesn't even seem like they've decided on whether to continue with their own engine or license Unreal (I'm hoping for the latter -- at the very least it would help them build unique environments quickly).

Also, keep in mind that the DAO expansion and the later DLC represented resources that could have been put into DA2.
