I for one will not be buying DA2 if no toolset comes with it.. Very disapointed in DA2.. a toolkit would have helped...
I used to never have a complaint about bioware.. They where my favorite gaming company..
well atleast mass effect 3 & swtor is great.. but have my doughts on DA3.. Sad..

I'm still a bioware fan, and if DA3 does come with a toolkit i hope they dont make it complicated like hammer editor.

So you not only want a toolkit (I think I got that from your post), but you want Bioware to spend time making it particularly user-friendly for you? Come on...

IF ME3 is anything to judge by, DA3 will require Origin, which flags any mods as 'cheating' and earns you a ban. So don't hold your breath.

I'll wait and see how DA3 is received before going anywhere near it.

What is the problem with a toolkit , it actually help us to improve the game longevity .
Sheesh, people like to give a shot in their own feet in these days.

The problem is that internal development tools aren't usually suitable for public release, therefore there is a COST to releasing a toolkit. That cost could instead go towards the game itself, or patches or DLC for the game.

I don't think anyone is saying "please don't release a toolkit ever under any circumstances." I am certainly saying "please don't release a toolkit at the expense of making content for the game itself."

DG did address this once.  No, I'm not going to search for it in order to provide a link.

Basically, he said they are now using some 3rd party software, and would need to obtain some form of licensure from that 3rd party before they could release it in a toolkit.

It does beg the question of whether people would be willing to pay for a toolkit if it were made available.

Well if we were talking about an indie dev it was ok.
Bioware have enough assets to develop a toolkit without harming the content development.
Just giving an example TOR was a 300 million expense -.o

Paying for the toolkit when most of the game devs release for free?
I dunno if its a good idea, after ME riots.

I understand that - but if BioWare has to pay a licensing fee to another vendor in order to release a toolkit, should they just eat that cost as a business expense?

The other thing they need to consider is the fact that the toolkit benefits only PC players, and does nothing for console players at this point in time.

Well if they switch the game engine, but it would take to much development time. The game would be released in 2017 :P.
And regarding the PC gamer thingy, they already punish then with bad portings and dumbed down features, don't see why you need to punish em further by setting a cost in something they will use to fix the game for Pc, avoiding at least 50% of forum dramas because it will be like: ****ty textures?Oh will download this HD pack and I'm good to go...No isometric view? This mod allow me to do so ... And so on.

Well from that stand point I could see the PC version costing more as the offset.  In general I'd rather buy RPG that's PC based in order to take advantage of the mods that will come out for it.  I'd argue that having access to player made content increases the re-playablity of the game so having it cost more than the console version is acceptable to me.

If the feedback for the game is positive then I'll probably get it either way toolkit or not but figured I'd point out that the additional cost for the PC version is a worthwhile trade off if you get more long term enjoyment out of the game.

Take it easy

I play on the PS3, so a toolkit wouldn't affect me one way or the other.

I understand the argument that it can help extend the lifespan of a game, but that's the main reason why I dislike Bethesda so much! Instead of releasing a polished final product, they rush their games out with the mindset of "oh, we can patch it later... or maybe the fans will fix it for us!"

(Yes, Bioware is guilty of this too... and players can't "fix" the missing Hawke battle cry files in the PS3 version)

I don't have a problem with a toolkit as long as it doesn't take away resources from single player and co-op multiplayer, which I'm really hoping to see, and could actually enjoy on a console.

I don't know why, but for some reason the irony of this fact rather amuses me.

My otherwise non-voiced Warden has battle cries and sometimes makes comments when I tell her to loot something.

My otherwise fully-voiced Hawke has no battle cries but often talks with no input from me.

I would LOVE a toolset, but whether I buy DA3 will depend on user reviews after the failure of DA2. Of course, adding a toolset can make some design decisions more forgiving.

If DA2 had a real toolset it would probably just be a question about time before someone added new maps and replaced all the reused ones.

Nothing wrong with wanting a toolset, but submitting it like a threat (a particularly sad and ineffective threat, too), is just rude.

But, hey, here goes:

I WON'T BUY DA3 IF THERE IS A TOOLSET OF ANY KIND ANNOUNCED OR PLANNED FOR.

SO THERE.
