How about a festival/street celebration in DA3?

I think it would be cool idea if DA3 had a quest or city/town in which some sort of big festival or street celebration is taking place (kinda like a medieval Mardi Gras but on a smaller scale that stays in in keeping with the game) that spans a cross a whole day/evening/weekend. During which you are given a bunch of quests (some big, some small) that both your character and your companions get to take part in.

What do you guys think? I thought having something like that (especially if it's set in Orlais) would be a good excuse for DA3 to show off with it's art style as the ambience and appearance of the town/city/celebration changes from day to night. It could also provide the opportunity to introduce more quests that include the use of your companions for more than just fighting, enabling you to take control of them for a brief period to create a distraction for your main character as he/she completes her side of the quest etc.

If DA3 was to impliment a festival/street celebration into the game, what sort of quests/mini quests would you want to see take place within it?

Would a dance party fit the bill?

I like the idea - especially if you would also get to judge for yourself whether a quest is best to be performed during the day,or at night.
As for ambiance - I dont know if you played a german RPG called Gothic - you could go back to camp during the day as well as at nighttime, and see everyone going about their business or prepare to sleep, sitting around the campfire, etc. They also complained a lot if you wanted to enter their abode without invitation or misplace their belongings, and this was 10 years ago:P
I wish BW also made things more realistic by making NPC AI a bit more....intelligent,lol. This has been addressed in many games before (Gothic,TES,etc)...
How is it possible to pick a lock right in front of Arl Eamon without him saying a word,or let the party in the city wearing only underpants, gloves, and boots-noone even cares.I know I would care.Laugh,at least.:D
Guards letting people into town with clearly visible weapons, etc. ?
This kind of oversight can really ruin immersion.

I've never played Gothic, but I'll look into it.

Reactions to your characters actions would be cool. Hell, even Fable had reactions based on what you were wearing etc.

LOL hell no! If there's gonna be fetch quests they should make sense within the game and should be more detailed than just "take this item to that person."

@Dance party : LOL,yeah,I also have that mod:) It is awesome, especially the thriller dance:) Now,something like that would be awesome - send someone up the stage dancing as a distraction, someone who is notoriously bad at it,while you complete your topsecretsuperduperclassified mission:)

LOL I love that idea! I could just imagine a Dwarf and say... Cullen (hint hint) knocking out the entertainment, stealing their costumes that are either two sizes too small/big and go up on stage to recite poetry, play the lute, sword swallow etc. Each companion would have a different thing that he/she would perform (kinda like the rescue in DA:O where you had to send two people in to save Alistair and your Warden.)

Gawd yeah, I've been angling for him as a companion/LI for two sodding games. Third times a charm though right?

I think it would be really funny to have some of the more serious characters have to do something stupid, or surprise everyone by being really good at lute playing or singing/dancing etc *cue surprised looks and witty banter from the party.*

An excellent idea - I don`t know about you,but I was mightily surprised by Sten`s interest in paintings...why could they not surprise us in other ways?

Orlais is the perfect setting for a thing like that. It's dandy and excessive and known for being a bit over the top according to wiki.

A festival (just like the masquarade ball) can be a good background for quests. In MotA the hunt and the party after was the sett up for the dlc which I enjoyed. The walk through the castle gave funny conversation from NPC.Image IPB

A quest that could be done during the festival could be gathering information about the main plot while being incognito because you would be wearing a costume and mask. Your party could split up and investigate seperately to make things more interesting.

I loved MotA, it was such a nice change of scenery, going from the dull muddy browns of Kirkwall to the colourful flamboyant grounds of Chateau Haine. It was comedy gold using the sarcastic/funny lines on the guests at the garden party, especially if you played as male Hawke, his comedic deliverance of his lines cracks me up!

That sort of thing on a grander scale would be awesome. Especially when mixed with the seedy underbelly of Orlais, imagine attending one of their lavish parties or festivals only to discover the further you delve the more dodgy and debauched things are, ranging from torture and blood magic, to murder etc.

I'm gonna be so disappointed when none of our ideas actually happen in the game LOL. Head cannon DA3 is so much more fun!

Something like this would work really well as a brief break in the overall tone/theme of the game. Personally, I think the inclusion of humor in BioWare games is a bit much. Not that it isn't excellent in it's own right, just that there's so much of it. Sometimes it seems to overtake the intended tone of the game.

That's the beauty of things like this, the tone can go either way. It would be just as effective, maybe more so if the mini quests were of a serious nature. I can't think of any off the top of my head that I haven't already mentioned in previous threads but the possibilities are endless.

What sort of quests within the festival/street celebration concept would you like to see?

The entire event at The Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy VII was incredible. But that whole sequence acted, as I mentioned as a brief reprieve from the overall tone of the ongoing storyline.
