Morrowind or New Vegas
I think DA3 will do well with detailed open world feature and varied amount of mini-quests. And let's not forget about well written main quest
Games Dragon Age 3 can learn from.

Came across some more interesting stuff playing Xenoblade.Minor spoilers ahead.
At one point you come across a displaced group, which would fit well with a war theme. Later you remove what what displaced them and everyone gets to go home. Unfortunately the place is a wreck and needs to be rebuilt. Which gives you lots to do, as well as a good central location for all the shops and services.

Morrowind, yes.
New Vegas, not so, FO3 would be better as there's more stuff overall to do and it's smoother.
But I agree looking at other games is a good way to get idea, but, as long as it isn't so much like that game it feels like it and it still has to feel like a DA game.
Uhh, people may hate me for this but, a collection of items you can collect anytime. I know in DA2 you can collect crafting materials but only in each act, I'd prefer them to be there in every act and think about one item to collect, eg Nirnroot (TES) or Flags or Feathers (Assassin's Creed). But not them as they are already taken. Something original.
