In Dragon Age: Origins, you can select from three different classes. Which class is better, in your opinion? Why is it better than the others? What is your favorite thing about that class? And what could you see change, unless nothing.

Have fun, and please, NO SPOILERS. Thank You.   :D

with potions: Mage > HUGE GAP > rogue > warrior
without potions: Mage > rogue > warrior (differences aren't that big)

stupid forum not rendering whitespace :<

Cone of cold should be a class of its own.

Mages are best (not shapeshifters!). A balanced team with 2 mages, 1 warrior and 1 rogue will probably serve you best. Possibly replace one mage with some other class as mages require a lot of micromanagement to be efficient.

They all have their uses. Some may be better than others. But that doesn't mean you should automatically pick the one who dishes out the most damage. Rogues are also huge fun to play.

I like playing rogues the best. either archer or melee. Do not know what class is more powerful nor myself care. I believe the best class for you or anyone else is one you enjoy the most playing.

The only possibility for me is the Rogue because there is no way my character would ever miss out on loot and stuff because he can't pick a lock or sneak.....so I absolutely 100% MUST have those two abilities. Then as a rogue I can also have the Arrow of Slaying.....which is not bad....not bad at all.

Definitely Mages.

As people have said before:

Cone of Cold is one imbalanced spell. Even if you have 30 spellpower and invested all into willpower this is a must get.
Fireball, aoe stun with nice range and deadly damage/DoT if you invest in +fire% items.

Invest three points into the talent tree of spell shield to unlock anti-magic ward. Proceed to conjur a certain spell called storm of the ages: put your party members on hold. Enjoy the carnage even on nightmare. Oh and If by some miracle some of them are getting out, dont forget your aoe stun or cone of cold which won't hurt you thanks to spell shield.

Certain spells you may get from a certain someone in soldiers peak (wardens keep DLC) will give you near infinite mana at a very silly cost.

What can a rogue or warrior do...yeah either tank or do "backstabs for dps'ing"
Meh..An arcane warrior can easily have over 100 armor and defence with even basic heavy armors oh and don't forget: IT CAN STILL USE EVERY SINGLE SPELL AFOREMENTIONED +ANY ARMOR/WEAPON they want!:o

Oh we shouldn't forget the insane spells of blood magic or the AoE sleep tree and if the **** should really hit the fan, make yourself immune for damage for a over a minute thanks to forcefield

But everything aside, warriors and rogues definitely have a very
cool feel with them and you can go a million different ways in this
game and have a redic amount of fun.Experiment and Enjoy with each class using different origins: twas the reason for the game [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sideways.png[/smilie]

The best class, as Lawpel said, is whichever you enjoy the most. The mage is not the best class for me because I have not enjoyed spellcasters that much. Warrior is nice for me though.

Mages are definitely the most powerful(especially with the right build), but I find playing a Warrior or Rogue to be much more fun.

With a Mage, I feel like I can just run into a room without formulating any tactics. Overcoming a particularly tough battle with my wits and clever tactics keeps the game interesting and fun.

I particularly enjoy playing a Rogue. So, while Mages are the "best", they may not be enjoyable to play for some.

Warrior class for me. Still playing through my first playthrough and I have selected Warrior. All round class and can hit very well with precised hits.

Mages, most likely. Not sure which is best, rogue or warrior, havn't completed the game as a rogue yet. My warrior run has been the most fun so far, though. As a tank :)

In my opinion, Arcane Warrior with blood magic is the strongest, because you have the fighting skills of a Warrior and the spells of a mage, so its like playing 2 classes in 1 person ;-)

However, I dont think they are OP, and rogues or warriors can be very strong too.

Like several others here, I prefer playing a rogue. A sneaky ... thief.

The warrior is fine, but I prefer to make my NPCs be the tanks of a party. The mage is your best bet for power if you build the character right and are good at playing it. I am not, so I only rarely play a mage.

Mage - Chuck Norris in disguise.

Rogue - Can be very fun with the use of traps and stealth, hit harder then a freight train with the proper set up.

Warrior - fairly bland, suprising considering all the good items in the game are designed for them.

The only class Ive played more than 8hrs with was a mage. It was pretty insane, I love the versatility. And mass paralyze is just icing.

I've played Mage and Warrior, so far.

I'm finding my Warrior far, far stronger and better and easier to play than my Mage.

One of the big caveats is that I refuse to use any spell that says "friendly fire possible", since that means evil, "I don't care about my friends/allies" to me.

So, at least in part, my preference for Warrior has to do with my ethics as a person and a role-player.

I think that all these people saying "Mage, Mage, Mage....the Mage is overpowered it's so superior to the other classes." are really saying "Evil, Evil, Evil, bwaahahahaha!, I'm omipotently powerful and EVIL and I don't care, bweaahahahahah!"

That's one of the things that makes DAO such a superlative role-playing game.

I played through with a warrior on normal and it was like french kissing a cobra. After, I played on insane with a mage and it was a walk in the park. The game failed. I don't wanna hear about how classes fill a role and mages are supposed to be powerful coss its good rping or anything. This is a computer game and the classes should be balanced to a reasonable degree.

@zeluron my i suspect your warrior spec failed.

Rogues and warriors start slowly i admit that but at level 12-16 they are starting to shine and later they simply outclass mages in many ways.

Strangely enough, although I love mages I found my warrior to be the easiest to play right through. Compare a mage who's getting say 50-70 damage off a lightning bolt (and losing mana in the process) with a DW warrior who's hitting for 50+ per hit, plus the effect of the runes on his weapons, without losing anything at all - he can keep it up forever and dish out quite a lot of damage.
Then consider warrior AoE - on the dual wield tree they get whirlwind and DW sweep - both of which quite heavily damage enemies (if you're geared well) without hurting your party. On normal those abilities together would take most groups well below half health. If I wanted to do that on my mage I'd have to blow the cr*p out of my party in the process or somehow engineer it that the enemies never got near me - doable but messy.
I was also able to make sure the enemies attacked me and made it simple to heal, as opposed to my poor mages who were stuck in a constant 'crowd control' battle to keep the enemies away. Sometimes that was fun (mass paralysis, yay!), but warrior just went so much faster due to the simplicity of having a tank/damager that was able to do his job well.

They all excell in seperate areas

Rogues are the supreme overlords of damage dealing

Warriors are the , well they are the only tanks

Mages can do everything but if not arcane warrior they can be killed easily

guys, I didn't knew that mages are top1! Your essays have helped me a lot.

In all seriousness I think that Mage>=Rogue>>Warrior. Stealth so far is the best "getaway" ability in this game. Dirty fighting + coup de grace + momentum is just incredible. Cheaping skill points on some useless progress trees (like leather belt>death strike>lethality>evasive) allows to put some care in archery skills, arrow of slaying + master of archery is still useful.

Stealth is possibly among cone of cold the best ability in game. Simply it allows to do almost everything.
