My warrior spec was as good as a sword and board warrior can be in this game. Do explain how anyone with any sense could fail at building a sword and board warrior when by the end of the game you have enough skill points to get every skill in the tree. I had a dwarvern tank with champion and templar. She had (I expect) one of the best armor sets in the game. Still had to drip feed her healing from Wynne though. With my mage I just plant fire balls down and everything dies. Is this stratagy?

Stealth is over rated
My lvl 24 Rogue has stealth 4/4 and I tried to lay traps and use items and all that bs but it never helped much
Stealth = Only good for getting in there and murdering mage enemies before they even have a chance to use their destructive powers on your party ... but you could just have a mage crushing prison or mana clash them instead
Also don't be stupid , Momentum is lame just teach a mage in your party haste instead its faster AND increases regular movement speed AND it increases the whole partys speeds and not just yours

Mages are by far the most powerful if used properly. However, they make the game least fun because it eliminates challenges, and you don't get any cool coup de grace visuals. Dual-wielding Rogues/Wars are most fun imo. Lots of opportunities to use weapons and armor you find in game, and they have stunning deathblows.

In fairness to the "rouges" postings, if I had a dollar for every time I've made that particular typo, I'd be rich!
I think it's not something to be irritated over, but rather something to laugh at and enjoy, since the easily made typo creates such a hilarious mental image!
(Visualizing the "Rouge Rogue", a dashing, handsome Zorro of a thief, Robin Hood and a Musketeer and Zorro all rolled into one, in his fancy, stylish, ruffled clothing and his flowing, curly black hair, and his red-rouged cheeks. Ahh, those rouge-covered cheeks! He's such a metrosexual dandy of a boy!) ROFL

warriors teeter on uselessness, arcane warrior and even some rogues if theryre built right can tank better. mage is better CC. rogue is better damage dealer. not much point in playing a warrior other than just because you like being a warrior.

don't you forget that stealth is spammable? it has cooldown only 10 seconds. just use it everytime when it is possible - rogue besides AW has the best survavibility on a battlefield due to stealth.
momentum is cheap for a rogue. haste drains lots of mana and it's better to investo into mana clash tree.

Arcane warrior and spirit healer, I'd say. Shapeshifting looks kind of useless to me and I haven't tried blood magic yet.

It really depends how you play. I really like a warrior, but some like mages.

Rogues: great damage dealers, either melee or ranged; love them, I am biased
Mages: too overpowered; get bored playing them quickly; I try not to pick cone of cold, force field, crushing prison
Warriors: non-DW are too slow, especially the two-handed ones; good meatshields; Indomitable is an awesome talent

Which class is better is subjective. Someone said it depends on how you like or want to play. Do you want to be an evil bloodmage wrecking havoc to all in your wake, a benevolent spirit healer who plays more of a support role, or something from the ancient past like an arcane warrior?
Do you want to be sneaky and stealthy? A lovable rogue or an evil assasin? Does that bow build look attracive or do you want to weild dealth in both hands?
Do want to be mountain of muscle? A Templar terror of mages able to laugh in their overpowered faces? The shield for your fellow part members?
What I'm saying is that all classes have their strengths and it really does depend upon how you as the player want to roleplay.

Rogues; don't need no stinking mages to complete all the quests, but they sure need us! *grins*

This topic is just lending it self to bias opinions..( does not mean I don't love to read the responses
)
All classes are the best if used for a specific purpose.
For instance as a generalization so I can avoid any debate is
warriors- They can be great tanks with sword and shield.
Rouges- Are good for picking locks, making posions and traps and disabling traps to.
Mage- Good fo rdirect damage and crowd control.
Form a party around what you want I am just having a tank to dps and a mage but I will change my party tactics occasionally. Have fun in Dragon age : Origins.

Warrior because they're so simple to play.... I was tanking with a freaking two-hander because a 'certian' warrior can't hold threat well. Like it's my fault my damage spikes to insane levels per swing!
Though for Power I find a Freezing/Paralzing/Healing Arcane Warrior to be terrifying.

Mage. easily. And they should be overpowered. I mean hack with a sword made of star four times, or conjure a giant inferno of fire or a giant storm of ice and lightning and your enemy is going DOWN. And the mages live in a dinky little tower, have templars and Chantry trying to limit their rights, would be hunted if they leave the tower, can never have children [unless they're lucky...], are hated by most civlians, and their connection with the fade puts them close to being turned into a thrall of a demon. Mages have it rough, and in return gain Chuck Norris powers.

rogues, cos walking into traps is just stupid and annoying, you could get leliana or zhevran to scout ahead if you don't mind leaving your pc behind to wait for the all clear, but does that sound cool to you?

I've solo'd the game with each of a mage, rogue, and warrior. In terms of both power and survivability the order is: mages > rogues > warriors. Understand this is viewing just the individual character and not a party. A warrior can perhaps have a higher damage output over a rogue (at least in the beginning of the game, I'd have to think about this); however, the combination of both power and survivability would certainly favor the rogue. For a mage not to be better than a rogue, well, one would just have to try to build him badly.

My next playthrough will be as a rogue, so I don't have much to input on them yet.
I had fun with both warrior and mage. I like playing knight characters in rpgs, and my templar was the tank of the group with his massive armor, and was very difficult to kill. My spirit healer/blood mage was the lone mage in the group and was responsible for the healing, crowd control, and pitched in with spells like fireball when the situation presented itself. It was fun being able to make battles that were tough while playing as my warrior, a walk in the park for my mage. Cone of cold, blood wound, crushing prison, fireball are awesome spells. Plus, with blood magic, mana wasn't an issue. I don't think I used more than one or two lyrium potions the whole game, if that.

It really varires person to person, and I have enjoyed all three equally depending on the particular experience I wanted my character to have.
If I create a character when I'm in a bad mood, I'll make a super powerful warrior who can just run everyone through with a sword and be done with it. This is great fun...but also quite shallow. No sneak, and the combat seems limited.
Mages are the most powerful, by a long shot. Some spells, when leveled up properly, are just POWERHOUSES. No one in a general vicinity stands a chance. But at the same time, this sometimes makes the combat parts boring and you don't get the same satisfaction as stabbing someone. At the same time, mages need serious micromanagement and when you leave them on autoplay they often make stupid choices just because they have so many spells and hexes in their arsenal.
Rogues are in general just fun. The lockpicking and stealth options are definitely a plus, and help you unlock things that you might have been too lazy to look into if you were a warrior or mage. In addition, rogues are decent at combat, especially from behind. The only game I've ever completed all the way was a rogue, so I guess it's safe to say I enjoy them the most because of the balance they provide. It's a good challenge, whereas being a warrior is often too hard to be fulfilling and being a mage is just way too easy, while still requiring lots of player control.
But it's hard to say which is "best". It's really up to the player.
