In Dragon Age: Origins, you can select from three different classes. Which class is better, in your opinion? Why is it better than the others? What is your favorite thing about that class? And what could you see change, unless nothing.

Have fun, and please, NO SPOILERS. Thank You.   :D

Arcane mage is my favorite of the  mage

I dont like casting spells that much..it bores me.

I dont like sneaking around because to me thats just cowardly.

I always play a warrior because I love being in the thick of combat. I dont care about all that "tanking" and "DPS" stuff,I just build a strong character that rips through opponets like butter. Warriors FTW!

Same.  Though I'll play paladins and other melee centric characters that have some spells.

arcane/bloodmage for sure. 2 times i played through origins usin them normally 3rd time i modded him up.
gave him special massive mage armor some arcane warrior only melee moves and a mod that allows u not to sheath while casting.i primarily use a 2h weap with my arc warrior with haste on all the time.

also have nightmare plus mod makes things alot more intresting.have more mods that make the game more fun but dont want to write a paragraph.....o waitImage IPB

Pure ownage, fully trained SnS warrior with templar and champion in massive armor, juggernaut for resistance or whatever other complete set if resistance is not an issue.

More than once my entire party except the tank has been down, him / her running around with shield wall owning everything with his maximum dps sword, screw resistance runes.

Obviously mages.

Second Rogues.

Last Warriors.

Reason is simple: Mages actually have a choice how to build.

While Rogues dont have much of a choice and Warriors have even less, Rogues at least get a lot of options in respect to utility and specials like stealing and stealth.

Warriors get not much of a compensation. Sure, the dualweapon Warrior does an ambundance of damage, but Rogues dont exactly do much less, thanks to their sneak attacks. Only real issue of Rogues is hitting opponents, and that one can be compensated with spells.

So in the end, Warrior is only really good as tank ... and then they're damn boring three times over.

Mages are the strongest class by far in a normal playthrough, anyone saying anything else haven't done it right (not trying to be a jerk, it's just the way it is). The 2nd strongest is a more controversial topic but most people would say rogue.

However since it is a singelplayer game it really doesn't matter which class is the strongest, the best class is the class that is the most fun.

i've always liked playing rogues/thief/assassin type characters, no matter what the game and i love the option to duel wield.

i've never really like playing caster roles despite them being able to dish out considerable damage, even in other rpgs or mmos. the only thing i could tolerate was playing healer for a while.

Mage/Shifter/Arcane Warrior

Why? Cause it's a frig'n shifter. Arcane Warrior seems like the best combo option sinse the tougher armors work in your favor in shifted form. You also never miss an attack if your wielding a staff when you transform if you have the tallent point in Mage to never miss.

What would I change?
Remove the cooldowns and cast time. Neverwinter Nights 2 had the same problem that's all to apearant in this game, conversations of any kind will cause your shifted form to auto-cancle.
With Master Shifter you should be able to cast spells while shifted as well as maintain sustainables, simmiler to the Natural Spell feat in Neverwinter Nights 2 for Druids.

With these changes I wouldn't have been compelled to use MODs for my Shifter.

rouges are my personnal fave but the best way to go for a ballanced team is 2 mages(one a healer) ans 1 rouge and a warrior

There is no "best class". It's entirely subjective.

However,

Fact: The mage IS the most powerful class in the game. Even the game acknowledges it if you pay attention to dialog and lore.

I'm playing through as a Mage atm, but will play all classes fully in time. I've dabbled with the other classes before though, so I understand how they work.

I'd say Mages for sure throughout origins but by halfway through Awakenings the Warrior becomes just as powerful.

I freely admit that mages are more powerful and versatile, and rogues can be masters of melee dps in addition to a lot of non-combat utility, but my favorite class will always be Warrior. It's just really fun for me to play, and makes me feel much more badass than sneaking around and backstabbing or standing at the back of the room tossing off Fireballs and Winter's Grasp.

Also, my spell-immune dwarf templar laughs at mages.

Let's see the best class in a game with only three classes...

Rogue. The vanilla game has a very thin and finite amount of loot and resources and without a rogue you'll be passing up every chest until you get to "The Joining" which is a considerable amount of time and then after that you won't be able to pick another chest until you pick up Liliana. That's a lot of missed loot.

As far as skills go... BioWare did one of the worst balancing jobs I have ever seen in a RPG... Mages are just too overpowered and had to be nerfed in how many patches? Oh yeah and they are still overpowered.

Also, BioWare was a bit stupid when it comes to locked chests and doors and the rogue issue... how many RPGs don't have lockpicks when there are chests and doors in the game that are locked? Oh, just this one...

Mages are the most powerful class for sure, but I would not say they are overpowered in any way, shape or form. Starting out you have very few spells at your disposal and with the long cooldown time will find yourself attacking with your incredibly weak staff. It's also very tricky to build a mage (ability-wise) unless you're going for straight nuker or healer.

The question is really moot, since the game is heavily stacked so that only fool plays anything but a rogue unless he wants to be flat broke the majority of the game and fail at every quest that even hints at the need for persuaion/intimidation.

That's not necessarily true. Depending on how you play, you can get by without having your character be a rogue.

DA:O gives two optional rogue companions that can each learn "rogue" skills (like pick-pocketting and lock-picking), so the player does not HAVE to be the one to have those skills to gain extra money.

You also only need 16 Cunning to learn Master Coersion, and since non-rogues usually start with 10-12 Cunning, they only need to invest several points to qualify. (And there is that part of the game that can potentially grant extra skill points for free...) A warrior or mage with Master Coersion can be just as persuasive as any rogue, and a strong warrior with just a couple ranks in Coercion can be intimidating enough to win any argument.

Again, it really depends on how you play and which companions you bring with you, but the point is the player does not have to be the rogue to gain extra gold or win arguments.

Agreed (w. Faerunner), my Arcane Warrior/Spirit Healer reached the end of the game with 4 stars in coersion.

I like mages and follow up with warrior as 2nd most preferred (Templar/Champion).

I also like appreciate the storyline point that mages *are supposed* to be the most powerful class.

There may be a complaint about "balance" but not everything has to be balanced in a decent storyline. It would be kinda foolish to make mages guarded/imprisoned by Templars if they were only as powerful as the average sword swinger.

If a game is unplayable without or with a certain class then there is a serious balance issue. But if that isn't the case then leave "balance" alone.

Weapon and Shield Warrior is the best, easy to build, easy to customize role, freedom in attribute allocation, most balanced class in the game.

Each is better at one thing another, really depends on your playstyle.
Rogue: Huge amounts of damage dealt in a very short time, with minimal health loss. With the right perks, they can end up taking less damage than warriors, due to some skills stacking and giving them a near 75% chance to dogde attacks. And some skills with the right specializations can lead to killing nearly anything from stealth, bu8t once revealed still does somthing mad.
Mage: Very low health, generally, and can't really defend it, but they can sometimes deal more damage than a rogue. A main thing is some of the better spells are only usefull at close-medium range, and by then the enmy can usually kill them in a snap. Being an arcane warrior makes the health pool not all too much larger, but does give more protection. Though it still takes the most damage and health hit of all three classes.
Warrior: Average damage output, but can basically be slapped around like a ragdoll and still be alive and kicking. Some of the right perks and specializations can lead to some serious damage resistance, but under pretty much any circumstance, they deal the lowest damage.

Another thing to take into note is that rogues usually end up richest, and with the most loot, due to the ability to pick locks.
