I seriously believe that the "extended cut" that Bioware if going to release is nice for a freebie, but still lacks the necessary epic ending and closure that everyone is looking for. I am a little ashamed, but when I went off to my final mission, I didn't even complete it with my favorite squad mates. I had thought that there would be several areas to fight through and similar to the suicide mission in ME 2 that I would at one point or another get to use all of my squad. I felt I wouldn't have access to my ME 2 squad since Bioware took the strange stance of not really allowing you to use them in your team and have limited or no actual combat.
Speaking of which I don't know if it was a design choice but this time around your squad was very limited on biotic power, if you were not a biotic yourself you could only use Liara, and Kaidan if he was the squad member you chose to allow to live, or Javik IF you chose to buy the DLC or already had it, like I did with my collector's edition. In comparison, ME 2 had Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Samara so even if you were no biotic you could run with a group of them and not be stuck with the same 2 the whole game.
Bioware committed a classic blunder, after introducing Harbinger as the big bad guy, in ME 2, they made him strangely absent through out most of ME 3, and then replaced him at the 11th hour with weirdo Starchild, and the encounter with him was not even a true confrontation. It would be like removing Vader and the Emperor from Star Wars and having Jar Jar Binks talk you through your three choices at the end of Return of the Jedi, oh and also no giant space battle and destroying the new Death Star, all that happens off screen.
Losing connection to the main threat in an epic story is an easy way to lose your audience at the last minute. Even if Shepard had to die, no matter what, it should have been in an EPIC battle against Harbinger, not in some little alcove on the Citadel. To make the multiplayer also something important and have you promote the characters you level up and not see them at all, except for a blurb or codex entry is also a very poor choice.
I think making the game revolve around you trying to unite the galaxy against the reaper threat and then hardly showing any of the action is a very poor choice over all. Okay, so all the complaints aside, what needs to happen to fix the Titanic?
The ending needs to be amended, to have Harbinger as the final bad guy you fight off against, the ending should be tiered similar to ME 2 so that you actually have all your squad available to you, both from ME1 and ME 2, there should actually be lots of ways that it all plays out, everything from, everyone dies and they fail to everyone lives and they succeed. I think that was what was spoken about, and that is what I think the fans were promised, anything less is a failure to an epic trilogy.
Thank you for reading.
