Pardon my caps. But seriously... the second I click "play" on the auto-run, I get the error message "Dragon Age: Origins has stopped working" - with the option to close it or "check for a solution online". I've tried both.

Here's what I've tried;

Tried Defrag
Tried running .EXE
Tried Virus Scan
Tried Spyware Scan
Tried Reinstalling, 3 TIMES
Tried Updating ALL drivers
Tried doing with ALL windows updates
Checked every god damn corner of the internet for people with the same problem - and oh, they do exist - but NONE of them have found solutions either. They're few and far between, and none or few have posted this same problem on this forum, but I figure I may as well post.
Tried it with User Account Control on - right clicking and running as administrator, and just hitting the "allow"button.
Tried it with User Account Control off
Tried with Windows Defender On
Tried with Windows Defender Off
Tried with Windows Firewall On
Tried with Windows Firewall Off
Tried exiting ALL background programs
Tried launching on high, and low settings
Tried launching with every possible different variation of setting from the settings on the autorun, really

Firstly, system specs;

Secondly, the actual errror I get;

Here's what else I know; Rebooting vista? Out of the question. Getting a new computer? I got this one a week ago. Getting a new copy of the game? Already DID exchange it, reinstalled with the new disc in case it was simply a corruption with the disc, and nothing.

So now you can understand my frustration - but to top it off? I've been waiting for this game since I first heard about it being even remotely like Baldurs Gate, ALL of my friends are playing it to DEATH (100+ hours) and constantly talking about it, and basically I desperately want to play this game.

Someone. Please. Oh my god.

The FIRST thing I would do is locate and install VISTA SP2! SP2 has been out for quite awhile now and fixes a boat load of issues, which may be hampering your problem here, MAYBE! Try to run your "Windows Update". If that doesn't work, here is the link:

VISTA SP2 Link:
http://technet.micro...s/dd262148.aspx

XP SP3 Link:
http://www.microsoft...08-1E1555D4F3D4

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

PS:  Anyone running into problems and does NOT have Vista SP2 or XP SP3, needs to locate them and update!  Than if the problem persists, come back and let us know!  Good Luck!Posted Image

Three things to try. Click start, click run, type services.msc then hit enter. Look for AMD External Event Utility. Right click on it and then click properties. Under startup type select disable. Then click on stop. Apply and then hit ok.

Shut down the Aero feature under vista to see if this helps.

The last thing to try is downloading service pack 2 for vista. There were a ton of people having this problem under vista until SP 2 came along, it solved it for most people, myself included. I haven't been using vista since Windows 7 went into beta so I'm not sure if SP2 is still in beta or not. Either way it should be easy to find. Good luck!

Hey Ambushbug73,

Good looking out! Yeah Vista SP2 came out of BETA back in June 2009. I'm pretty sure it will fix his problems. If not, there are some other things he can try, as you have pointed out. I have never made an AMD processor, so good looking out!

So you had the exact same error, installed SP2, then it fixed itself?

This thread makes me a sad panda [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie]

Before you throw in the towel, please try these:

1. Try running the game directly from the daorigins exe. Don't use the auto launcher.

I have a suspicion that your issues might be related to the online component of DA, but I'm not sure if it's possible to run the game offline.

2. XP Compatibility mode SP2/SP3

3. Run the game in  window mode (This really does wonders according to some people, so you should definitely try this first)

4. Install Microsoft .NET Framework  4.0 beta 2 (This cut down loading time from minutes down to seconds for many people)

5. My suggestion (No one has tried it yet so I'm not even sure if it works or if it's completely useless)

Unfortuantely BW/EA rarlely responds here as these are user to user support forums. They chime in now and then, but mostly to annouce things.

But for REAL tech support you have to open an tech incident with EA... Although, I'll be quite honest. The support people give on these forums.... beats the HECK out of contacting EA

TallBearNC, WOW, I am afraid to even ask you what you paid for that Gaming Rig! Is there any option you didn't get when you bought it? How long ago did you get it? If you don't mind, blowing my mind, what was your duckette outlay?

fault module points to an ATI driver dll. Try setting your graphics to lowest settings and see if you have the same same problem.

BTW, before you do that makes sure to install SP2 since it fixes issues related to audio/graphics.

5- not trying that, sorry :S

My system is about 2 months old. This system was over 7,000 bucks LOL. I usually buy a new top of the line system every 3 years, and during those 3 yrs, I will usually upgade my GPUs, but with DX11 coming out, it will FORCE app developers (who use it) to take advantage of multiple CPUs and GPUs.

MS is on the verge if yanking all the licensing for DX9 as a way to finally kick the gaming community off of windows XP and force them into win 7 (or Vista). DX10 was a flop so we will pretty much see a jump right to DX11

Plus win 7 is the LAST 32bit os from MS, Win 8 will be a 64bit OS (possibly with a 128bit version) and Win 9 will come with both 64 and 128 bit versions as AMD and Intel are about to annouce the first consumer 128bit CPUs expected to hit the market in 2011 or 2012 ;)

Anyway the thread's issue, it's very odd that the game would crash before it's even fully loaded. A few things instanly come to mind:

1) Corrupt download and/or install of the game
2) If you are on Vista the game may require at least SP2
3) If you have old or corrupt vid drivers it can crash on start
4) some drivers/systems do NOT like the intro movies (especially some SLU and Xfire systems)

a few things to try is re install vid drivers
set the game's settings all to minimal and LOW resolution to see if that help
DISABLE the game's intro movies!! For some reason these crash a LOT of machines

here is how to find the file to disable them (I'm on win 7)

C:\\\\\\\\Users\\\\\\\\David\\\\\\\\Documents\\\\\\\\BioWare\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\Settings\\\\\\\\C:\\\\\\\\Users\\\\\\\\David\\\\\\\\Documents\\\\\\\\BioWare\\\\\\\\Dragon Age\\\\\\\\Settings.ini

Find these lines:

[Movies]
DisableIntroMovies=0
FirstRun=1
0=dragon_age_ea_logo.bik
1=dragon_age_main.bik

Change to (or make sure they are now):
DisableIntroMovies=1
FirstRun=0

save the file and try to re run the game

Honestly I recommend that everyone disable the intro stuff as it will make the game load MUCH MUCH faster :)

I would not try any other fixes, until SP2 is installed. You may be making matters worse.
