Maybe it s worth updating this thread with the last balance change I just read (8/28/2012):
Gold and Platinum Difficulties
- Enemy shield/barrier damage gates on weapon damage reduced from 90% to 75%, which means
25% of the remaining weapon damage will pass through to health.

Of the sniper rifles, only the Kishock ignores shield gate. Is necro'ing threads the cool thing to do now?

Ah, don't mind me. All projectile weapons (apart from the Krysae) also ignore shield gate. The Kichock is actually quite good on the Asari Adept as Stasis makes for some handy training wheels.
